Bill Maher is a voice of reason

Fox highlighted Maher's recent comments.

I completely agree with him.

His differentiation between woke and liberal is spot on.

The Trump tag line is just to attract clicks. The article is much more that that.

Maher has been fighting the far left for a few years now. Based on what he talks about you realize he understands the bigger fight is against far leftists than conservatives. The woke crowd is all about their way or the highway that's why every response they have is cancel or boycott.

And unfortunately they have the MSM acting as a loudspeaker for them.

If he ran for President with this message, he would probably win. I wonder all the time why someone on either side doesn't take this approach and just talk common sense.

Because you couldn't win the primaries in either party like that.

Or white supremacy and racism.

Not sure about that in a straight up vote. I think majority in each party are more to the middle than we are led to believe. I think the bigger issue is where the parties funds come from. For the life of me I can't figure out why 3 or 4 candidates who were kicking the crap out of Joe Biden suddenly dropped out. And my gut reaction is always follow the money. I think why Mayor Pete dropped out would be a headline story if we ever got the truth.

As someone who supported Buttigieg, he dropped because he couldn't attract black voters at all.
He underperformed in South Carolina and the polling for super Tuesday showed that he really didn't have a path. My guess is that he made a deal with Biden that he gets a cabinet position for an endorsement to help strengthen Biden as the moderate candidate which is where most democrats were.

He had one bad day. Then he backs out 2 days before Super Tuesday? And based on previous results why trust the polls so early in the process. It seems bizarre to me. If he’s in the mix on Super Tuesday, Bernie might win a lot more states. I think something happened behind the scenes by the bigger powers of the Democratic Party.

Just saying I wanted him to win, and was watching the race closely.
He spent a ton in South Carolina and developed his "Douglas plan" specifically to court Black voters. That was his path forward, it just didn't work. It was clear at that point it would either be Biden, Sanders or Warren. He likely made a deal and got Secretary of Transportation out of that.

Is it possible that it was something larger than that to ensure more votes for Biden? Sure, but getting a cabinet position when you don't have a path is a decent deal already.

Based on the general logic that you're using I'm lost as to why Biden didn't see the writing on the wall after the first few states. He was a big joke and then every candidate other than the far lefties dropped out. What was so special about Joe. Heck I think Mayor Pete, Klobachar, Yang, or even Steyer or Bloomberg would've won the nomination if any of them went against Warren and Bernie. You knew those 2 would split the whacko vote and any one of those others would have gotten the W because they weren't radical. Why did the guy continuously underperforming in the first few primaries end up being the last man standing against the 2 far lefties. To me that was a play behind the scenes. Bernie might have kept winning with a large field and that scared the democratic party powers.

You're just missing what the environment actually was though. This is what I said here the day he dropped out.
I’m disappointed but Pete needed to at least outperform his S.C. polling to have an argument for a path. Didn’t get it done and I’d agree some kind of agreement was probably made about his future in a Biden administration.

That opinion was based on what everyone was discussing at the time. It was in the context of Pete doing well getting started in the primaries but started to get hit with the criticism about his support with Black voters. The conversations at the time was that he needed to outperform his polling in South Carolina because he went all in on doing so. He didn't invest in any of the super Tuesday states and was polling between 1-4% in each of those states. He threw everything he had at SC and bombed.

If he could have outperformed even finishing second he would have controlled the media narrative and could have fundraised off of that but there just wasn't a path when he underperformed his SC polling.

I never understood the fascination with Buttigieg. He was a mayor. A mayor!!! Does experience matter or just being somewhat articulate good enough?

Biden has plenty of experience. Clinton had the right experience being a governor but I doubt you will have them on your list of the top presidents. Experience matters, but I'd rather have the guy will little experience who is intelligent enough to have the smartest people around him than the experienced guy who only surrounds themselves with yes men.

In my opinion, Buttigieg would have done a significantly better trying to unite the country than any of the other democratic nominees. It wasn't just that he was "somewhat articulate" He was intelligent and thoughtful and had a vision for the direction of the country that I agreed with.

Because it’s not JUST about experience. Being a lifetime bureaucrat with few accomplishments is just as much of a nonstarter. IMO there were several other Democratic nominees that had a combination of experience, accomplishments, leadership and vision. Mayor Pete was a lightweight in comparison.

Thanks Mr. Whataboutism. He wasn’t qualified either, so what’s your point?
thats not whataboutism. youre mr whataboutism you say it ad nauseum.

the point is somehow you have a problem with a mayor running for president but i dont remember you having a problem when a nobody actually becomes president.

at the very least, you answered your own question. does there need to be experience? no, see trump. does one only need to be articulate? nope not that either, see trump.

its really odd how you just throw that word out as some sort of shield. its like your own rape whistle.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion.

I just don't see it the same. I'd prefer a candidate with the right experience but at the end of the day, it's a guess whether candidate would put the right people around them and be thoughtful enough to be a successful leader.

My guess was that Buttigieg would have been the best leader.
Biden was not high on my list because I did not think he would be an effective leader, even though I thought he had the best chance to win a general election.

What are you talking about? I didn’t vote for Trump and shared SPK’s view that he was unfit to run (and HRC was unfit to be). Next?

Wow…I’m entitled to my opinion…how magnanimous of you.

I don’t like to “guess” about leaders….and Biden is no leader. Any of the Democratic candidates would have likely beat Trump.

Well you asked for why people supported Buttigieg, I explained why I did and you kept going.
I have my opinion, you have yours. It's fine.

I don’t like to “guess” about leaders

Sure you do. Every time you vote in a primary, you are guessing that person is better than the others.
It's an educated guess based on the criteria you establish, but it is still a guess.

Any of the Democratic candidates would have likely beat Trump.

I doubt that very much. Biden then Bernie were probably the only two that would have.
Buttigieg and Klobuchar would have an outside chance. All of the rest would have lost.

Based on my criteria, Buttigieg would be a big guess, since he had no track record, accomplishments, experience, etc. Less of a guess, much less with others. Kind of like a draft pick. Take a running back from Alabama who started four years and made all SEC or one from Monmouth that had a good senior season? Still a guess,,,,I guess.

based on what we know, we might be better off with guesses. Can you name 5 people with experience who knock it out of the park? We can’t get 2 good candidates to run. One could say a guess would be better than the proven scum we have everywhere in DC.

Yep. It's always a guess.
It's 1996. How many kids out of college are you taking ahead of Kobe out of high school?

There are generational exceptions….Kobe had a pretty good HS resume….he was no secret and an exceptional talent. How did Bill Willoughby do?

i never said you voted for him, i just dont remember similar outrage. i didnt realize you voted for biden. not that it matters.

A mayor running for president?? whats next, a reality tv star running for president? reality tv star doctor running for senate? reality tv star wannabe running for congress?

nah its the mayor that really grinds your gears. hes overqualified recently.

I didn’t vote for Biden. Buttigieg doesn’t bother me at all. Just not qualified to be President. Yeah, Dr. Oz, Kanye, etc. Anyone that votes for them deserves what they get.

so if u didnt vote biden you voted for a guy who previously had no experience. or at least you acknowledged that a guy with no experience could be the better option for reelection after learning through his first term.

you can understand that people with less experience could be better options based on your previous votes. and a vote for a 3rd party was essentially a vote for biden last election.

I didn't vote for "a guy"....

And I didn't say experience was the only factor, or did you miss that?

When you pick a surgeon, do you value experience? Track record?
When you pick an attorney, do you value experience? Track record?

Right. It’s a guess that their talent will translate to the NBA. Many didn’t work out which prompted the rule changes… but it’s not like Kobe, Lebron, Garnett, Howard, TMac, etc.. we’re non starters.

Im not saying Buttigieg was a guarantee. He wasn’t. Just who I thought would be best.
Just like when Fiorina and Carson were high on your list for the Republican nomination. There was no evidence that they had any idea how to be effective leaders in government, you just guessed that their work experience would translate well.

Thats a stretch. Fiorina I did say performed well out of the gate in the debates, which she did. And she did have a track record as CEO of HP….a little bit more responsibility than a mayor.

Right, and you guessed that would translate well into public service based on what?

She had no experience in any public office.
Doesn’t experience matter?
