COVID Comparison

Just wanted to point out that the most at risk people, obese, also coincides with the states with the lowest vaccination rates. Simple fact.
So? Does that not mean you should have messaging that helps save their lives. Surveys show that minority communities do not trust or take advice from the medical community (lowest vaccination rates), but it doesn’t mean you give up.

Where did I say you dont message about health? How did we turn this into minorities?

I posted a simple Top 10 states for obesity. Those states are also having low vaccination rates. I'd say those people could use alot of education on health choices.

However, wouldn't the same people who refuse to get a vaccine also tell you it's none of your business what they eat or drink? NyC tried to ban soda drinks over a certain size and people flipped out. Dont tread on their freedumb

So there’s a lot of dumb people everywhere. That doesn’t mean the government shouldn’t take a responsible path and educate people whether they listen or not. That education on healthy living during this pandemic has been silent.

And the lowest vaccination rates in those southern states in the minority community. This is a failure on the part of our government.

yea its always been promoted, and actually has been updated so much by the govt that michelle obama changed it to a plate to make it legitimately healthy. no sweets or anything. everyone on this board gave her a bunch of guff for getting involved. of course.

what else you got?

Those states also have a higher % of people living at or below the poverty line, I believe. It is worth noting that inexpensive eating is rarely healthy eating.

food pyramid joke lost on some… lol

Sami, That’s really a false narrative. You can eat healthy and inexpensively.

you have a point on fat free, but thats no longer pushed. sugar free is what is pushed now. so really its not a good point.

do you think these people have no idea what healthy is? they do. its anything they dont like eating.

what is your realistic plan to correct this? its not knowledge its self control and giving a damn. whats your plan to fix it?
Fat free is still pushed. Heck anything with less than 0.5 grams of fat is still fat free. Sugar free is no better. It’s filled with aspertame and other wonderful chemicals the body doesn’t recognize and struggles to breakdown.

I think they know a salad is healthy but I also think they believe products marketed as health foods are healthy. Given the choice of 2 plates salad or marketed healthy crackers, they pick the crackers because they think they are doing something good for their body and like the taste better.

My solution. I haven’t given it much thought. But if you watch the last minute of the video I posted, Fauci talks about good sleep, nutrition, exercise. All 3 of those need to be explained more. But how does the government explain it properly when they’re in bed with food lobbyists? I don’t know.

I get that, but expanding on that, often eating healthy is not time efficient.

I know well that healthy CAN be inexpensive and easy… raw vegetables, fruit, easily prepared meals. I have 6 year old twins, it’s tough to align that but thank god they both like green peppers and hummus as they eat practically NO other vegetables .

But low income, too many kids, working multiple minimum wage jobs, huge swathes of the population are obese, impoverished, lazy, unable to live like many of us try. Also, uneducated.

Fast, inexpensive and convenient isn’t always unhealthy, but often leans that way.

yea youre right. healthy eating is not only expensive but time consuming. healthy = fresh food which takes time to cook AND shop to replace. youre in the supermarket more often when buying fresh food. meanwhile a microwave works in 1m.

hes just trolling at this point tryijg to be difficult

yes but in addition to vaccines also saving your life today.
I wasn't talking about vaccines...my point was about messaging from the government. They have clearly led with vaccinations once they received the EUA. Where they have failed is giving guidance on reducing or eliminating risks/comorbidities which would have been extremely important especially when the pandemic started. And it still gets very little or no mention.

Do you know how long it takes to cook a baked potato in a microwave? The expensive, time-consuming, etc. excuses are just that. Everyone is walking around with a super-computer in their pocket that they can research quick, inexpensive, healthy meals that you can purchase locally. The government can be providing valuable guidance to avoid being hospitalized or die from COVID, but they choose not to.

Microwave radiation is another topic. We all use microwaves, but I would hope that is not the main source of cooking.

Or you could set them up for a life of health problems and shorter life span....good parenting

i dont believe its as easy for a lot people.
It's also not that hard. I don't think dismissing it so easily is the right way to address it. We are an unhealthy population for a reason. Why does the human race in other industrialized nations not have this big a problem?

because being unhealthy promotes the economy in a capitalistic system. low costs, easy distribution, less waste, high margins.

Most of those other nations or capitalist as well though.

Our poor health is more of a result of our affluence than anything else.

Did I mention lazy?

thats odd considering the most unhealthy places are also the poorest.
Because those in wealthy/power positions will prey on the poor. And unhealthy is not just obesity. Lots of heart disease, diabetes type two and other comorbidities in urban centers. Yes, the wealthy have a lot of those as well. Drugs, alcohol, poor eating habits. Just because you’re thin doesn’t mean your arteries are in good shape.

yea i mean simple blood tests get ahead of it and poorer people dont go and spend money to get routine anything.

I agree, but I wouldn't necessarily cite them as a success story considering the comparison to their neighbors though.

It's clear the US failed though. Much of that was driven by our unhealthy population, and now political divisiveness.
“ Now”political divisiveness
What do you mean by now?
Are you excluding 2020?
Are you excluding republicans who have consistently said you should get vax but not be required to? Are you including the failure to mandate vax at only some federal facilities?

Wow, so kinda like I said before Knees. Uneducated. It’s a SOCIOECONOMIC issue. Glad you finally get it assuming you do.

“now” as in since the vaccine has been available but many at risk chose against it because of politics.

Personal choice is not politics bookeeper (or at least it shouldn’t be)

it might be dumb personal choice

so gov can’t require one to have a child when pregnant but can require new vax. Solid take!

Are people really choosing against it because of politics? I've really yet to come across that. Everyone I know who hasn't taken it has a had reason but none of which were politics. Some of the people I know who wouldn't take it because it wasn't FDA approved are now getting the Pfizer shot because it is. The top 2 reasons I hear is it hasn't been studied long enough and the person has their own health issue and they don't know how good the shot is for their current personal health issue.

Same here...know several people that have not been vaccinated...never say it’s political.

2 people I know are ages 67 and 72. Both have had Covid and both were test for antibodies. Both do not see the need to take any risk with the vaccine.

Thank you for admitting it is largely uneducated people not getting a safe shot.

Glad you finally get it, assuming you do.

I’m curious when something new comes up in science, how often do the educated people in the science community get it right first go around?

Politics has played a large toll in the reason why so many unvaccinated people are going to the hospital and still dying.

Had Trump won, and politicians and “news” personalities on CNN or MSNBC were pushing anti vaccine rhetoric, and polling of democratic voters showed a reluctance of vaccination, and the highest rates of hospitalizations were occurring in blue areas of the country, I have the feeling that many here would start to understand how politics played a part.

I’m not in favor of mandates for the vaccine and not sure why you’re being up against abortion here.
