COVID Comparison

It's not a red vs blue thing... It is a who did the anti-vax messaging impact thing.

Your 1 example did not blow anything out of water in context of comparing it to the rest of the country.
Mountain on support on one side vs one outlier in PA?

You’d see it if Trump won and the left was pushing against the vaccine.
There is no proof of that either. Do you ever talk to people? I haven’t heard one person give that as a reason for not being vaccinated. MSM and social media loves to show these outliers. Supports the narrative. Enjoy your echo chamber.

Anti vax ????
SOME Republicans suggest choice
SOME liberals suggest choice
(More republicans)

Both sides have limited people who have or have had anti vax sentiments

At this point anyone who wanted or needed it can get it. And so at this point the overwhelming messaging by politicians only on one side has changed drastically.

The arguments by those who still have TDS makes me smile. It’s cute.

You’ve talk to people, and think I’m stuck in an echo chamber? Ha...

You’re ignoring the polling showing vaccine hesitancy being highest, and pretending it’s just a crazy coincidence that the areas with more republicans in certain parts of the country also have lower vaccination rates resulting in higher Covid hospitalizations since the vaccine has been available.

2021 has nothing to do with Trump at all.
I’m talking about those who downplayed Covid and overstated the risks from the vaccine in 2021.

yes, those who want it or need it CAN get it, but the 4th wave of hospitalizations and deaths was the result of people not understanding they needed it. Much of that was because someone convinced them they don’t.

But I’ve provided you with an example that runs completely counter to your theory.

If 2 out of the top 100 worst hospitalization rates by county are in blue areas... that doesn’t prove the theory wrong.

The fact is that the 4th wave was worse in areas with lower vaccination rates, which happen to have a larger percentage republicans who are against the vaccine.

I’m sure that’s just a coincidence, right?

Dear Bookkeeper: Who? Who downplayed? The President (and then ex Prez) that rolled it? One congresswoman? Five wacko radio hosts? The MSM? Enough with you.

Vast majority of our R leadership said you should get it if you want/need it.

Vast majority of Democrats have been all over the map.

This became political when it became an opportunity to get Orange man out of the WH.

I haven’t studied county by county in each state but I’m sure their other examples like Pennsylvania. You posed a theory. It’s based on a bunch of your assumptions. No data to really support it.

Theory - Messaging that downplayed Covid and overstated risks from the vaccine pushed specifically by right wing outlets had an impact on vaccination rates and ultimately hospitalization rates and deaths.

Facts -
Polling shows Democrats are 55% more likely to be vaccinated than republicans.
There is a strong correlation between areas with lower vaccination rates having higher hospitalization rates.
There is a strong correlation between areas which are predominantly conservative having lower vaccination rates.

You can keep pretending those are just coincidences if you'd like.

Also doesn't mean there will not be outliers within that data. There will be, just like anything else.

So if there outliers (and the outliers in PA are the LARGEST counties), that’s a major flaw in your theory. Tying extreme messaging to behavior of those with a political affiliation is the Gumby of conspiracy theories.

Just as easy to postulate that gun homicides are predominantly in Democratic urban centers. Does that mean that Dems are more violent?

Outliers are not flaws. There are outliers in everything. You know that.

Tying messaging to behavior is not a conspiracy theory. You know that. You've talked about the impact main stream media has to their audience, you just want to ignore it in this case.

Sure...some people can be influenced by social media messaging, but your theory doesn't prove that it's a majority. People that identify Democrats and Republicans don't think as a monolithic tribe. In fact, most people that have an affiliation are influenced very little by the leaders of that party...once again the ridiculously low approval ratings should tell you that. There are big and small outliers....I gave you a huge one.

Never said "majority". I said it had an impact which is why conservative areas tend to have lower vaccination rates and higher hospitalization rates.

32% disparity between republicans and democrats when polled about if they received the vaccine. Largest disparity among any group.
19% disparity between republicans and democrats when polled about if they will definitely not get the vaccine. Largest disparity among any group.

There's a reason for those disparities.

So what's the reason? Social media?

The reason is that the messaging that downplayed the risks of Covid, and overstated the risks of the vaccine was effective.
IMO, that's a huge stretch. I know the MSM likes to play that narrative, but I see no proof of that. Just because "messaging" is out there, doesn't mean people listen to it and act on it. I think it's more plausible that people in less populated states (or red as you would call them) were slower to get vaccinated because originally those states had much lower infections and deaths. It's just one theory, but no less probable than yours.

What’s the death rate these days. Don’t try to give me the 1 percent figure. It’s much lower now

Except that's not an accurate statement. Those states saw a winter/spring surge in cases and hospitalizations like the rest of the country.

Because it eventually spread. Nothing points to social media in those areas.

1.615% of identified cases.

If you assume that the entire country has been infected, the IFR would be 0.22%.
My guess would be somewhere closer to about 0.7% when all is said and done but heavily depends on age.

Yes, it got to those states as the vaccine was being rolled out and the people there still chose not to get vaccinated. Why?

Also, why for example would tens of thousands of Americans flock to the anti-vax group -"America’s Frontline Doctors" for alternative treatment?

“The Intercept”?? Are you serious? Striking example how algorithms push people to stories that support their conspiracies…

Popped up as an alert because I track stories on ivermectin. Wasn't from an algorithm. That said, I have read their site a few times and they have have had a few stories which I didn’t agree with but learned from on foreign policy.

But still... just because you don’t like the source, that doesn’t mean the story is wrong. It’s supported by the fact that Prescriptions for ivermectin blew up recently.

Nice backpedal...totally bogus site.
