With the resignation of Kelly and now Mattis, the two most respected staff in the administration, we are enetering a dangerous time. The Mattis resignation letter shows how much danger there is and the danger of Trump. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/20/us/politics/letter-jim-mattis-trump.html

Pulling out of Syria has essentially abandoned the best fighters and allies of the US against ISIS, the Kurds. We leave the area, the Kurds are set up to be annihlated between the Turks, Assad and Russia. We have give. Up all influence in the region to Russia.

The Mattis resignation tells you all you need to demonstrate how dangerous Trump is.

Amazing, everyone is a neocon now.

I'm glad Trump is pulling our people out of Syria and possibly doing the same thing with half of our forces in Afghanistan. We don't belong there, it's time to stop the endless wars.

So we just abandon our allies the Kurds to be killed off?? We allow Russia to dominate the area? This is a game of chess not checkers.

Reminded me of a post in an old thread.

One positive I see is that with this trend of departures; the adults are winning: Kelly, Mattis, McMaster, Tillerson...I'd be very worried if one or two of them bailed.

I'm not against withdrawing from Syria... but there are certainly some major red flags regarding what occurred in the last couple of days.

Agree about the first point. If the adults leave the room I don't like it at all. Hope the new folks are strong and can stand up to him.

One of the things I liked that both Trump and Sanders said during the election was that we need to get our troops out and stop fighting these endless wars. They both said it and I liked it. I hope he pulls us out of there. We will still be stronger than Russia and be more nimble in case someone decides to test us. Since he has been President my Ranger nephew and friends son who is a Seal said they took the handcuffs off the military and they are allowed to go in, do what they have to do and get out. I don't like how he announced the move on Twitter but I do like the move. This was an Obama era debacle. Obama wanted Assad out but didn't do what needed to be done and got caught in the middle and we lost. Cut bait and leave. Good move and let's get out of Afghanistan next.

Yup, an old thread. The point back then was about those four leaving quickly like some of the early changes. While I don’t like the Mattis departure, Kelly and Mattis served two years and did their job. Keep waving your red flags.

Who wrote Mattis’ letter, John McCain or Bill Krystol???

We shouldn’t be the world’s policeman except we should be world’s policeman??

Getting involved in Syria in the fashion we did (halfheartedly) was feckless; now getting out is feckless??

I disagreed with Obama when Assad crossed the red line that he had to go In. But this is part of the bigger battle against ISIS. The Kurds were incredible in fighting ISIS. We promised to stand by them and now we leave them so the Turks and Russia to massacre?

How is this acceptable to anyone? We didn’t set up any geography to set the Kurds up to be an autonomous govenernment. We just pull out without having any say there? What? This is a reckless decision which will have huge consequences.

We can debate whether this is a good or a bad decision for the United States, but have you ever asked Syrians who have skin in the game if they want us there?

The flag waving was coming from Mattis, one of the guys you trusted to be the adult in the room with Trump who are now all gone.

If your concern was that Trump needed someone to guide him on policy, you should still be concerned.

Not nearly as concerned as you.

Thats the problem with getting involved in the first place. You need to be strategic about when you leave. If we accomplished all we set out to do while we were there and have assessed the outcomes of our withdrawal which appear favorable then we should indeed leave.

Im not qualified to know that but thd letter from Mattis is concerning to me.
