I am not really fond of the coach tree logic in any sport.

Those 2 names make my point.

These guys did not sniff Nova job when Jay left. Neptune, with 1 year of head coaching experience at Fordham, got the job. This was a Jay orchestrated move because no AD or President would have even considered Neptune to take over such a great position. No knock on Neptune, but Nova took a huge risk and lost badly.

The irony is NWestern fans are acting like the world is ending if he leaves. Who knows if he will get the job but people have to understand the handcuffs he has at that school with players. It’s like trying to get players admitted to an Ivy school in a league where everyone else is getting the best talent. At Nova he’s able to recruit a much higher caliber of player that he can’t get admitted to Northwestern. Just food for thought. People were surprised he stayed there after the tourney appearances but it was bc his son was enrolled at the school. He just graduated.

He went to a public high school was the state mr basketball his senior year and a mcdonalds all american. Played at duke during the down years of K's run?

Briefly played in europe after college then was an assistant at wnba for one season before joining amaker at shu for 2 seaons then went to Duke for 13 seasons.

I lean where you do on this. My only hesitation is that I've read stuff and listened to stuff -- and not from people who are necessarily biased or part of the "coaching fraternity" that always defends each other -- which say that Northwestern is an impossible place to win at consistently (or at all). So even though his record is what it is, they think it is pretty remarkable that he was able to make 3 NCAAs and win a game in the round of 64 each time.

But, to your point, how is the Nova fanbase going to react to a guy who has the record he does in the power conference?

I don't think he should be fired, even if we didn't owe him a truck load of dollars.
He deserves a longer leash but not, necessarily, a long one.

And I think Neptune is decent coach.

The difference between admissions at NW and Nova with hoops is stark. NW is as close as it gets to an Ivy without being an Ivy. In a conference where everyone else doesn’t have those restrictions.

He was at Navy for a couple years and had kids leave the team in droves. He started out sounding great,,,, but fizzled. Of course, Navy not the easiest place to recruit basketball players. He's also from the Jay Wright tree.

Mentioned this earlier…they really like Bryce Drew who has done a great job at Grand Canyon and when he started his career at Valpo. Had a bad break with injuries his second year at Vandy and got fired following year.

bc had a coach killing it. they refused to accept some players who were qualified by ncaa rule. so he quit.

But you may have a guy like Odum targeted and some back channel discussions to feel confident but he might be targeted by others. They have a pretty lengthy list.

25 wins last year and an NIT championship. Starting PG, Zion, left team after mental breakdown. Has had previous issues with mental health. Jenkins, our leading scorer, played 2 BE games or something like that.

If Sha doesn't implode next year he should be safe for at least another year. How many more years on his contract?

Year 2 they got TJ Bamba, Tyler Burton, Hakim Hart in the portal. On top of Dixon, Moore, Longino, Armstrong, Hausen. Missed the tournament.

Year 3 he’s got the nations leading scorer Dixon, a likely NBA player in Poplar, a 5th year Longino and a 5th year Brickus. Oldest starting lineup in the nation. All seniors. Missed the tournament.

Losing Shulga cost him his job. If he doesn’t fail in Year 2 he ends up with at least Carr and probably Shulga too. And would’ve gotten an extension. Instead he got fired bc he failed in Year 2 when he had a roster that was too good to fail.
