This paragraph is factually incorrect. Only 21 states in the united states mandate influenza shots for nurses. And they vary if a nurse has to wear a mask or not.

My feeling is pretty strong that if you are not vaccinated as a healthcare worker, you are in the wrong line of work.

Staffing will resolve itself after a few weeks with a mandate but you are right there will be a short term staffing issue.

If hospitals want to do what is best for patients they will have to deal with it but when enough places do it, it will be a non-story and looking back no one will question why they did it, they would only question why they didn’t do it or why did it take so long.

I’m not arguing either way, just stating an issue that’s been created by requirements. Not just about nursing either. Housekeeping, dietary, environmental services, supply chain. Hospitals are understaffed right now and can’t meet patient and regulatory needs in many cases.

I was talking about employers require vaccinations who work in hospital not states.

States requiring it is irrelevant, almost every hospital requires it and is standard of care.

I’m assuming this question is “were teachers previously required to get yearly flu vaccine?”

I don’t think teachers are required to get flu shots and I don’t think covid shot will be mandated either . I think since most kids aren’t vaccinated, every teach should though to protect kids and self.


Folks in hospitals already require flu shots largely so there is precedent and only a matter of time before hospital healthcare workers are required to get covid as well (Opt out might be masking all time with N95 and frequent testing).
