On the brink of War

Do you know what the interviewer asked him though? I am not sure what the question was... but given he is the "U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate" - I am guessing he was probably asked specifically about climate change. Hard to have an opinion on the answer without the question.
You can do better than this :) I was fishing but knew you would bite. You make a valid point but anyway you look at it silly answer to any question. Since I could not find the question (tried to find) can you think of any one question yourself where his response would not sound foolish.

Well in the first month Biden was President they did everything they could to shut down fracking and US oil drilling and the pipeline. It's hysterical when you read from the MSM that now gas prices have gone up because of the Ukraine invasion? Gas, home heating oil and natural gas were all up significantly already because we shot ourselves in the foot and reduced supply that was homegrown. Meanwhile low inventories of EVs available due to supply shortages, not enough charging stations and the electric grid still relies on fossil fuels and nuclear energy (80%) and will for years? F'n stupid folks in control and we have another 3 years of this stuff with runaway inflation and more. But gas and oil prices are going up because of the Ukraine? Hello!

It seems dumb to be talking about a war's impact on climate change.
Apparently the interview was about climate change though, so I am assuming he was probably responding on topic about the question that was asked. Just seemed off that we didn't get to hear what was asked.

Found the whole video but it is in Arabic. No translation yet.

That was because of the pandemic though when the price of oil declined to a point where it was not worth the cost to produce more. Production has been increasing consistently and we are back to 2018 production levels for oil and right at all time high production for shale gas.

I personally wouldn't argue that those are good things, but does support that the price of fuel is not as much a domestic problem than it is a global problem.

Yes, they still need power from somewhere but if you are able to charge at home and typically drive less than 80 miles a day, they are awesome. Needing to stop to charge on a longer trip is annoying and not convenient but never having to stop for gas makes up for that.

Good luck if anyone can get it translated it would be you. I understand your point without the question it appears to be out of context. Cannot think of any question that would provoke such a foolish response, so you might be wasting time.

It doesn’t matter what the US does regarding climate change if China and India do nothing. The dreamers in the climate change religion feel if we set a good example they will follow. Our emissions are down in the last 20 years and they both have emission increasing significantly.Unfortunately we have to suffer climate prophets of doom whose continual predictions of the end of the world happen as soon as the prior predicted date passes and we are still here.

While I agree with the overall sentiment, we shouldn't just do things if others will. I recycle, while I know it's most likely pointless since others dont, its still the right thing to do.

why is everyone saying cyber attack?
Russia has a lot of technology, some very big computer security companies and hackers. Putin being KGB and currently very bold makes folks concerned he has additional non conventional means to do damage as things escalate. He shut down communications, internet, and electricity inside Ukraine. They were able to hack into systems via computers and shut things down. In the USA we have water pumping stations our electrical grid etc… which most likely they are capable of hacking. Once that happens we will most likely shut them out as well. If they were able to shut down 40 % of our country before we could stop them the effects would/could be pretty devastating. Think about no electricity and or water for several months. If they shut down 75% there would be mass chaos. Think about Financial systems not being open on top of everything else.

i mean, if they hack into the US utility, infrastructure grids, internet, etc its essentially the apacolypse.

youre essentially saying take out mad cash and stock up on everything. everything.

Ukraine has its battle call. Perhaps the most bad ass thing I have heard. Russian warship requests Ukrainians to surrender or be killed.

Ukrainian response “Russian warship. Go **** Yourself”

John Kerry's letter to Putin:

Hey Vlad:

I hope all is well.

I know you are busy with this "minor incursion" thing (lol). They can be so messy. Check out the chick in the photo below. Bummer for her don't ya think?

Anyway, I digress. Look, after you get this thing cleaned up let's be sure to get together. How about lunch? I want to stay focused on climate change. You got a lot of ice out your way and if it melts.....well you know....its not good......kinda like what happens when the ice ball in your Bourbon melts too much....you are left with watery Bourbon.

Well, that its for now. By the way, that was some nice shooting there on Snake Island. The nerve of the guys to diss your Navy.

Take care,

Johnny K.

fwiw - apparently the interview was on Monday and he was asked about the climate implications of a future conflict before Russia actually went forward with it. So much ado about nothing really.

The sanctions lack any teeth. They haven't sanctioned Putin himself. We are now buying more oil from Russia (and Iran for that matter). The first thing we should have done is stop buying any Russian oil but unfortunately Putin knows we lack teeth and balls. Bidens comments and sanctions are toothless. Europe continues to buy Russian oil too. Ironic too that Russian oil is among the dirtiest oil in the world and pollutes more than most for the Euro Climate Change crowd.

Taiwan is now firmly in deep shit as the world will stand back and let Putin do what he wants and the Chinese will use this opportunity laughing all the way.

We're funding the operations against us and our allies because we have to appease John Kerry and those followers and save the planet for future generations who will be under the dictatorship of Xi and Putin's successors. That's clearly a better alternative than creating jobs here for our own oil, pissing off the far left, democrats lose votes, and the evil threat of republicans gaining control.

Good post. I happened to watch Biden's press conference yesterday and questions were posed regarding the sanctions, specifically why we haven't triggered them with Putin personally. Biden said it was still on the table but one reporter asked what needs to happen to do it, which he didn't really answer.

Footnote....some of the questions were just inane. These MSM reporters are just so unqualified to do their job.

The simple fact that SWIFT hasn't been shut down to Russian banks tells you all you need to know. The playbook is stamp your feet and make this look good but Putin knew all along that we and our NATO allies were never going to do anything to save the Ukraine. Where it gets interesting is with the other baltic states that are members of NATO. Will the Euros stand up and protect those countries? Very doubtful and Putin knows it and is happy to eat their lunch and continue to sell them oil and gas.

My nephew was very involved in training the Ukrainians and the Poles. He is an Army Ranger. He said everyone knew that if Russia wanted the Ukraine it would get it. He told me that about 4 years ago. He also said if they try to get Poland the Poles will fight them down to the last grandma standing.

To be fair, they're doing the job they're being asked to do.
Oh, I agree. It's cringeworthy if you go back and watch Presidential press conferences from 30-40 years ago...Articulate and intelligent questions.

Biden yesterday:

“they are profound sanctions. Let’s have a conversation in another month or so to see if they’re working.”

Bless his heart. Very comforting words to the people of Ukraine.

It's really mostly about Europe and energy. Putin has them over a barrel (pun intended). May not be anything we/they can do about it. And Italy doesn't want a ban on selling luxury goods to Russia, LOL.

Bye Ukraine. Next.........

There’s really nothing significant we can do about it that doesn’t lead to us in a war vs. Russia. It sucks for Ukraine, but none of the other countries around the world are rushing to help either because no one wants a world war.

Everyone knew Putin could take Ukraine and there was nothing that could realistically be done about it. He won’t go near the NATO nations though, as that forces a mandatory response from the U.S. and others.

Yes, the same political leaders that are pontificating about climate change...

The problem is if he wants to redraw the map and get those other states back. He literally has Europe over a barrell and Europe has no stomach to help their neighbors but they do like to complain a lot.

Don't be so sure, NATO has to agree 100%. Putin realizes that NATO countries don't have the stomach to enter into war. A look back in history, Hitler sent troops to occupy Austria in 1938 and the following year annexed Czechoslovakia. Hitler’s open aggression went unchecked, as the United States and Soviet Union were concentrated on internal politics at the time, and neither France nor Britain (the two other nations most devastated by the Great War) were eager for confrontation.
We are so weak today that we didn't remove Russia from SWIFT as stated earlier.
Weakness breeds aggression, say what you want about our previous president, but this isn't happening if he's in office. Elections have consequences, many people will die needlessly in this war, so your vote counts. 3 more years of weak feeble leadership. Hoping for the best, but Putin has gone down a bad road and may not turn back.

There have been overtures by Russia this afternoon about entering Finland (not clear what they are proposing) and refugees are already showing up in Sweden.

This doesn’t happen under Trump because he was a mentally unstable leader. It’s why people have to tiptoe around Putin, because he is a mentally unstable leader.

It doesn’t really even matter whether it’s Biden, Trump, Obama, Bush, etc. - the fact is Putin knows he can push the limits because no one wants a world war. Unless he forces them into it, he’s going to keep pushing unchecked. It sucks
