On the brink of War

Was watching Bloomberg and it is amazing how many European Prime Ministers, former PMs and very high members of Euro governments sat on boards of Russian oil companies, on the pipeline company and more. I know the Austrian PM just resigned two days ago. Follow the money! This explains so much and is why these dummies are so reliant on Russian oil. No different than our first families (both Repub and Dems) either frankly. But when the sh$t hits the fan you look really bad.

Don't let nuclear war distract you from the fight against Covid folks. If there is a nuclear attack, you have to wear a mask and stay 6 ft apart to avoid Covid.

https://www.ready.gov/nuclear-explosion

Go to the basement or middle of the building. Stay away from the outer walls and roof. Try to maintain a distance of at least six feet between yourself and people who are not part of your household. If possible, wear a mask if you’re sheltering with people who are not a part of your household. Children under two years old, people who have trouble breathing, and those who are unable to remove masks on their own should not wear them.

STAY INSIDE

Stay inside for 24 hours unless local authorities provide other instructions.
Continue to practice social distancing by wearing a mask and by keeping a distance of at least six feet between yourself and people who not part of your household.

No not that we rule others but economic pressure is a valid course of conduct when there was a world wide view to oresssure the removal of a corrupt prosecutor. That’s not ruling Another country.

with regard to foreign aid, That’s just a very short sighted view. Foreign aid is an important tool of American Diplomacy and important for geopolitical and military reasons as well. not giving foreign aid is a good way to turn many countries against us and into the arms of our enemies and competitors.

the US spends around $35 to $40 billion a year on foreign aid. That is a very small percentage of our budget.
Let’s hope they leave several billion to fund terrorism for Iran. They also have nuclear ambitions as well. The irony of the situation, that’s the next step for Biden administration. He has his main man John Kerry leading the way. Only a matter of time before we start funding terrorism, hard to imagine people this stupid running our country.

In lieu of "False Equivalency" you might consider saying it's apples and oranges, unless of course you're vying for the John Kerry speech award, or should I say oratory accolade.

Heartbreaking:

Has Russia really changed since the fall of the Soviet Union? The answer is no. Besides the Boris Yeltsin years, Russia transformed from one dictatorship to another dictatorship with Putin. Just as aggressive and just a power hungry. Russia has been a threat for many years and yes Mitt R
mOney was correct back in the debate with Obama. Once Putin came into power it was well known that the former KGB agent was anti-west and yearned for a return of the empire of the former Soviet Union. Your discussion of Russia and what it is and of NATO reeks of naïveté. When did Russia become the victim of inflexible western countries? lol this narrative is absolute BS.

Sorry, but without going into too much detail, all I can do is chuckle at your line of “naïveté.”

Still, out of a basic sense of charity, in case you wish to spend some time educating yourself and finding the truth of this matter, here are some small nudges in that direction.

Start with two quotes, and then more below:

“Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a recent keynote speech. “Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”

In his state of the nation address in mid-December, Mr. Putin also portrayed Russia as a staunch defender of “traditional values” against what he depicted as the morally bankrupt West. Social and religious conservatism, the former KGB officer insisted, is the only way to prevent the world from slipping into “chaotic darkness.”

Mr. Putin’s views of the West were echoed this month by Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow, the leader of the Orthodox Church, who accused Western countries of engaging in the “spiritual disarmament” of their people.

“We have been through an epoch of atheism, and we know what it is to live without God,” Patriarch Kirill said. “We want to shout to the whole world, ‘Stop!’”

Other figures within the Orthodox Church have gone further in criticizing the West. Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, a church spokesman, suggested that the modern-day West is no better for a Christian believer than the Soviet Union.

And, sadly, if you’d like to take this exercise a step further, it’s very worrisome to revisit President Reagan’s historic “Evil Empire” speech (March 8, 1983) and ask yourself the question of what has gone wrong with our society since we vanquished the Soviet Union under great men such as Reagan and JFK:

“Yes, let us pray for the salvation of all of those who live in that totalitarian darkness–pray they will discover the joy of knowing God. But until they do, let us be aware that while they preach the supremacy of the state, declare its omnipotence over individual man, and predict its eventual domination of all peoples on the Earth, they are the focus of evil in the modern world.”

Another great video, of the two men who defeated the Soviet Union, Reagan and Pope Saint John Paul II, meeting for the first time in 1982:

Hey, I love my God, my Church and my Country, the United States. And I absolutely hate Communism and the Soviet Union.
But truth is truth.

The Russians and the Russian Orthodox Church suffered a lot under Soviet Communism. You won’t find many people who detest it more than they do. They have changed.

Sadly, so have we. You want to find out who is really trying to revive the Soviet Union today? I suggest you look in Washington, Brussels, Trenton, Ottawa, Sacramento, and Albany, (and, sad to say, the Vatican) for starters.

I think we found one of the audience members from the America First Political Action Committee event.

Yes you are on team Putin. Lol. He is a man of traditional values of murder, cheating, propaganda and no free media.

Maybe you need to listen. to truth and not Putin propaganda. How about starting with Gary Kasparov from 2015 who was sounding the alarm of Putin for many years. Kasparov starts speaking at 2:15.

SHUMA04, I was only commenting on the prolificity of your posts.

Your points were lost to the left leaning Godless posters.

I subscribe to "knowing your enemy". Your posts provided additional insight into Putin motivations.

Suggesting you support him is a ludicrous inference.

As is SHUMA04's absurd suggesting that liberal politicians and the Vatican are in favor of reviving the soviet union.

I don't recall suggesting that.

If your comment was directed at somebody else then please post accordingly.

Nahh, trump licked his boots.
How so? Trump made us energy independent and day one Brandon gave everything back due to the green lunatics. Then he lifted the sanctions on the Northstream pipeline. So he basically funded Putin and all his efforts. Then the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan further proved to Putin how weak we had become since all we cared about was social justice and green. So when World War III starts, we can thank those in the dangerous media who propped up 16 year old “climate scientist” Greta Thunberg “how dare you”!!!!

What is the definition of energy independence?

Under Trump we still imported oil from Russia and other countries. So what does it mean? If it It means that the US produces more than it consumes. Then according to Axios, we are basically energy independent in 2021. https://www.axios.com/us-energy-independent-petroleum-2982ed18-9110-4c31-ad67-82abe643f661.html

I am not sure I am reading this right but according to EIA, this chart seems to confirm the Axios article. https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/aeo/narrative/production/sub-topic-01.php

Energy independent in 2020 and in balance in 2021 (imports and exports equal so trend getting worse as no longer independent). Biden immediately halted oil and gas leases on public lands in the US in January 2021 which caused us to import more oil some of which comes from Russia. In mid-2021, U.S. imports of Russian crude hit the highest levels in about a decade. So we are helping to fund the war on Ukraine. Hope Greta and AOC are happy. The other idiotic decision to stop construction of the Keystone pipeline while lifting sanctions on the Russian Nord Stream pipeline makes no sense. The Keystone was going to deliver oil to the US from Canada. Now these deliveries will happen on trucks and trains which will spew pollution that a pipeline would avoid. Jimmy Carter no longer the worst US President in history thanks to Brandon.

You do know that that pipeline has never been opened and therefore Putin has never made a cent on it, right?

The U.S. has been buying Russian oil for a long time and really started ramping up in the early 2000’s with further ramping up in 2020 and 2021. We are guilty of supplying Putin lots of funds.

Energy independent means we bought on the open market because we got better pricing, not because we were forced to. With Brandon‘s actions, we were forced to. And yes, Germany finally woke up on the Nord stream issue.

Then energy independence that we been hearing that went down the drain since Biden took over is a false claim. If we are in balance for 2021, this claim that gas prices are due to Biden is absolutely false. There seems to be no correlation between being energy independent and gas prices. And we import very little Russian oil about 7%. When we were not energy independent, we had cheaper gas prices. Maybe because oil production was cut due to the pandemic and has just now started to ramp up to pre pandemic levels is really part of the problem as well as an increase in overall demand. Now you can add in the war in Ukraine.

Everybody has their talking points. First, we should not be buying any oil from Russia. Like you said, it's only 7%, so we should have shut that spigot off a long time ago, but especially now, there is no reason to have stopped it as one of the initial sanctions. Are we trying to placate European countries?

Show me an energy strategy where we are not dependent on sourcing from hostile or unreliable nations (Iran, Russian, etc.). Stopping the Keystone pipeline was bad policy. It doesn't have any impact on this war in Ukraine, but you have to think long term.

Agree with most of this. I just wish the people like TomWall would acknowledge that we purchased oil from Russia while Trump was in office as well, it's not a Biden thing.

To add to this, I read the following-

"The U.S. buys Russian oil in part because they produce a certain type of oil that is able to feed refineries in order to make fuel at top capacities."

Does anyone have any insight?

Everybody has their talking points.

That especially applies to energy policy. If you approach energy from either "I like Biden and so I like his polices or I like Trump so I like his polices, you can easily find the talking points to support your view.

Digest the following chart and then read the two opposing views on energy policies.

Biden's policies read very well. The long terms goals dovetail with the chart. I believe some of the short term decisions to curb natural gas, coal, and oil are too aggressive. When you throw in "environmental justice" and "fighting climate change" you have a message that is easy to accept.

Trump's policies are easy targets to rip apart. They are framed as being an enemy of the environment and promoting dependence on oil, gas and coal. His desire to reduce regulations are framed as wanting to allow big corporations to pollute the world. It is an easy thing to reject.

I personally think a combination for the two policies make sense. Unfortunately, either side uses the cons of the other's policies as a political weapons.

Keep Biden's direction toward increasing renewables, reducing carbon, promoting electric vehicles. Keep Trump's decisions for the short and near term to reducing choking regulations and maintain reasonable energy cost with gas, oil, and coal. We cannot cut oil, gas, and coal too quickly while building out renewables.

I agree with. you in terms of cutting off Russian oil. But, without Europe joining in, there is little impact at all on Russia.

We export oil and our biggest imported of oil is Canada not Russia. I think we all try to make this more simple than it is and it is far more complex.

I just heard of another problem and one of the reasons we import foreign oil when we have enough to supply the nation. The Jones Act bars any foreign vessel shipping cargo from one US port to another. Therefore, we have an inability to ship Texas oil to New York or Boston. Most vessels apparently are foreign and not American.

It may not have the impact, but it's a matter of doing what's right. Isn't that what the global warming initiatives are all about? We can make all the changes we want, but until China, Pakistan, India do, it's like spitting in the wind.

I just don't really understand why people are rooting for the success of oil and coal as opposed to rooting for the success of renewables. Even ignoring the opinions on global warming, I just don't get it.

Burning oil and coal causes local pollution which has been shown can lead health issues. Oil has the potential to cause fairly devastating leaks into our water supplies, oceans etc.

Our renewable capacity has doubled over the last 20 years. 20 years ago, energy from renewables was 1/7th what we produced from oil. Now it is 1/3rd and there is still so much potential.

Absolutely agree with all of that.

I don't know that anyone is rooting for oil coal and against renewables.

My simple response to the question you ask is that it is a due to the typical vested interests with any change.

It took us a while to go from steam locomotives to diesel electrics, mainframes to minis, DC to AC. (That cost Edison the largest fortune that ever would have been).

We have a stockpile of this quote framed. We give them to new clients on big projects.

I'm rooting for the success of renewables while doing my part by driving hybrids etc.. This isn't about us or the people on this board with college educations. This is about lower income people we are choking to death. Folks who are border line poverty getting their legs cut out from under them with no reasonable plan in place to move forward. Maybe we can afford to give half the population golf carts to get to work? How do we go from plan A to Plan B without ruining peoples lives. We need to produce our own energy in the here and now in our own country, while making progress towards renewables. The last guy was trying to do that. Every time a president changes we change directions. Look at Iran. We need to ask ourselves friend or enemy and vote accordingly. Right now we are running in place wasting time, and I'm frustrated by the stupidity of it all.
