Shinola X Seton Hall X Onward Setonia

If we couldn’t sell some hats, there’s zero chance we hit this. Just a reality on the size of the fan base. It is what it is
Nothing against hats and watches but they need to be more creative on items and other venues to raise money. Unless you are buying the watch just to support NIL which is great a watch I believe does not move the needle much .

I hope they succeed but as I posted before they have to come up with better ideas to raise money. Still do not understand why they cannot have an open practice or inter squad scrimmage for X amount. I would think they would get a great turnout .
I feel like we have answered this question multiple times already. It is an NCAA violation to charge people money to watch the team practice or play another team and give it to NIL. You can have a separate autograph session after, you can have a luncheon, a basketball clinic etc but you cannot charge people to watch them play and call it NIL.

Ok then why don’t we sell tickets to an autograph session that follows an exhibition game?

They have done that. People complained about the cost and I’m sure the turnout was paltry. Posters bought spaces for people to bring their kids but the complaint was then that they had to pay for the adult space themselves.

Hate to say it, comes down to the simple fact that our fans outside the die hards here and there, just suck.

There is no sea of gray jerseys at the Rock.
118 people bought 144 hats.
The watch will not get done because production numbers won’t be hit.
The Peter Millar golf attire is deemed too expensive.
Every exclusive event is bitched about because of cost.
People complain about the rise in cost for the beefsteak and complain about the food.

Blame the school? Sure, I guess somewhat. Obviously there is something amiss since we cannot cultivate the same spirit other schools can. But the blame itself lies with the fans.

We have done that in the past and I’m sure there will be some type of meet and greet at some point throughout the year. However we don’t have an exhibition game to the public that is scheduled and I can understand Sha’s point for not doing so. After NJIT last year a lot of us thought this is going to be the worst season ever. Team is not anywhere close to being ready after not being together during the summer and Sha probably doesn’t want to deal with the criticism before the season even starts.

What was the cost on the autograph event - anyone remember?

Ding Ding!

its like a brand saying their customers suck for not buying their product. is it that theres demand and the people suck, or just no demand. is that the customers fault? is what it is.

this comes down to which schools can get whales. whose fault is it that whales aren't produced at SHU and alumni relations has been terrible?

If they sucked out all of the blood of our whales more the reason to have something more for the other Hall fishes in the sea. If you look at both candidates for president both camps are always asking for small time donations.

Well at least the organization is doing something to nurture the fan base and grow the donation funnel like providing assistant coaches to the trove for interviews…

i think the big donations can subsidize some of the efforts for the small donations. the problem is that shu doesn't have a big fanbase to nickel the numbers out. and the one they have they alienated for so many years.

I thought the event was a great idea, I just think the timing and presentation may have been less than ideal. Trying to explain to my wife that we would need to leave University Day early, tell our 4 year old to skip the pumpkin painting and then pay $175 to head down to Bunny's for a meet and greet and autos that we had gotten for free for the past 10 years just wasn't a winning proposition.

The optics of taking the players off-site and charging money on the one day of the year where it's about "pirate family" was not great. I had to pass on it, unfortunately.

I would have rather just paid $75 and had a signed team poster shipped to me. That offer was not and still isn't available to me, which makes little sense imo.

and then to have the conversation at the end of the season, "remember your favorite player? Yeah, he left and is playing for our rival now."

Just a horrible era for the sport right now. I always thought the players should be something like a revenue share, but it's just craziness now.

Was something like $25 per kid and $75 per adult. In that ballpark.

People tried to equate cost to value, which is never a fruitful exercise in the NIL world.

Isn’t that what NIL is supposed to be? Cost to value? You pay for the actual value of that player? That is why this version of “NIL” is just pay for play. These kids aren’t worth a fraction of this money.

Really? Never thought of that.

Yes, of course it’s pay to play. Yes, of course you don’t get what you pay for.

This is all just terrible execution. The best part of University day was taking your families to see the team scrimmage shake their hands and have them sign autographs. I have done this as a kid and would have loved to have done this for my children. There's no reason we couldn't have charged $25 for this inside the gym for University day. Taking the biggest draw to our school off campus on University day takes away from the University and it reeks of greed and stupidity.

We should be focused on smaller donations but larger get-togethers. $25 to $100 to support the team, especially during this period of high inflation. I don't mind buying a nice $100 hat but waiting 6 months for it is poor execution also. The events have been too exclusive and the premium's too high. The best part about Seton Hall basketball is sharing it with your family. Not spending $500 so you can rub elbows with a boosters. (There is nothing wrong with that either, but our fanbase is too small to provide enough money from the elite boosters.).

I agree. Some other type of fund raisers must be done . $100 hats that you are still waiting on and watches that nobody is buying are not moving the needle .

If I remember things correctly, at that time, the university was still trying to keep some distance between itself and any "NIL"-related activities. I don't think this would play out the same way today. It was a very clumsy start to things, that's for sure.

I know for sure Sha and all the other coaches in all the other sports are not but sometimes I think that the athletic department is satisfied if we are just competitive .

Isn't he talking about this year's upcoming University Day?

i think the hats and watches are a great idea. and extremely commendable from all the people/fans who are trying all of these NIL efforts. its really honorable.

i just dont think any effort, no matter how amazing will move the needle. too little too late for seton hall.

teams who are going after mass volume small fish are doing so because it's the only thing left to get an edge over the rest of the field. they all have big donors and the little doners move them the extra 10% needed to get the advantage. and the large schools with big populations can scale their fanbase when its still just a fixed amount of players on the team.

its sad but as it stands now seton hall is a thing of the past. its great weve even made it the past two years but how do you scale this every single year?? thats a lot of watches

Way too negative . It will be near impossible to get 4/5 star recruits put even before NIL we only got very few of them anyway and still were very competitive . Today we have to use our NIL money wisely with 3 star recruits , foreign players and transfers . So the important thing is that we must continue our NIL efforts both large and small to compete. GO PIRATES !!!!!
