SHU vs Stanford Game Thread

Great start on both ends. They're clearly into this game and determined to leave there with a second win. Defense and rebounding looks night and day better from the first two games.

Desi is dogging it out there. Team is losing focus....Veer has no chance guarding Higgins!

Is Delgado winded right now? Looked great in the first 5 min. Looks horrible right now. No effort on D and careless on O.

Hate to say it but Singh is a complete liability right now. Can't guard and can't make a wide open shot.

Stanford can't hit an outside shot and they managed to claw back in the game by attacking the glass. Need to get Desi more involved; they are doubling Delgado every time he touches the ball and hedging KC aggressively off the pick and roll. Should open up opportunities for Desi.

Too many sloppy passes and turnovers. Thought Nzei was very active and hopefully we will see plenty of him in the second half.

What is going on with Powell?

Ok, now we need to pick it up.

First time seeing team this year. Where's Powell? Carter, Singh & Soffer on floor at same time seems inadvisable

The loss of IW and DG might be looming larger than expected in terms of intangibles/leadership/intensity.

Also, perimeter defense sorely lacking. Opposing guards penetrate far too easily and get way too many open jump shots. Puts a lot of pressure defensively on the front court when there's no one stopping the ball.

We're lucky Stanford can't buy a three ball, or we'd be down 5-6 points easy.

When Stanford has the 2 bigs in the game we should try and get out and run as much as possible. That is where Desi and KC are lethal.

Why up ten did we clear the bench? Are our players that gassed? They didn't look it.

Dumb move.

Boggles the mind. We took our foot off the gas, Stanford smelled an opening and upped their energy. We haven't adjusted/recovered.

BAD ANKLE

His substitution pattern destroyed our momentum. Standford was totally intimidated. But we gave them back their moxie. Thanks coach!

Absolutely, I never criticized Willard but a horrible substitution. We had them on the run, keep the pressure on them. But no, takes out the regulars and puts in rarely used subs. Now the regulars come back in, out of the flow and now tied at half. Terrible coaching decision.

Remember that time, Willard wanted to pretend he recruited a stud 2015 class. Not one of them has A10 talent let alone Big East. Veer is not only getting attacked on the defensive end but he never knows where he's supposed to be on the offensive end... MP needs to get more minutes than Veer every single game.

absolutely waxed on the boards and its embarrassing. when espn analysts are starting to call you out you know its bad. this is the 3rd straight game the other team is gobbling up offensive boards. completely unacceptable.

regroup at half, finally nail it down. this team is so beatable.

Exactly. Stanford is woefully un-athletic. Need to press our advantage here.

The backups just have to fill their roles. Way too much panic on the board right now. Well tighten up and guys like Desi and Carrington will step up. Veer and Soffer had good looks. I'm thinking Powell may be hurting.

I want those subs to get time, but only if we are up by 20.

Wow - we look awful! Playing schoolyard ball and one-on-one garbage. Reminiscent of some of our worst offensive games. The second half can only get better. We have no real point guard - even Gordon could shoot much better than Jones - and was crafty driving to the hoop. Let's go guys! Step it up in the second half!

My guess is he's gambling minutes in first half for second half for starters in 3rd game in 4 days.

Too much panic? That depends.

I still expect to beat Stanford.

Longer term though: front court depth, perimeter defense, defensive rebounding and roster health are all legitimate concerns.

On the plus ledger though Nzei continues to blossom.

Man, we really lost focus and intensity the last 7-8 minutes of the half. We looked great the first 12-13 minutes then died. Started out playing crisp, hustling, moving the ball well, playing with purpose. Then started to coast around the time Nzei went on the bench, Started allowing offensive rebounds and getting lazy. Willard did nothing to stop the bleeding. We scored 4 points over the final 7:43 of the half!

Deeno and Desi doing too much walking around.....they are the leaders and set the tone. Veer was guarding Stanford's best and most athletic perimeter player for far too long and got exposed. That's poor coaching putting Veer on Higgins.

We had about 6-7 bad offensive posessions in a row. Couple of bad decisions by Delgado when the double teams came.....taking our time and resorting to tough shots at the end of the shot clock, an ill-advised 3 by Soffer, a missed 3 on a good look by Singh.

10 Turnovers, Desi & Powell have both been non-factors. Once again Nzei kept us alive, once again Angel starts out very strong and when he starts to struggle so does the rest of the team. More than anyone, he is the barometer of how the team is doing....when he has a good game, we win every time. Can't say that about anyone else.
