Dr. Fauci gives grim projection

The models have been wrong from the start. Just like the "experts," who parrot them.

This issue will tamp down significantly after November 3.

After reading a study today we probably won't be at the finish line until 2027.

Hard to take you seriously when you say stuff like that.
We will either get to a point where we have a vaccine or incredibly effective treatment, or we will get herd immunity at some point. Will happen closer to 1 year than 7.

Merge, if masks work why isn't everything open with no restrictions except for a mask mandate?

Ignoring the fact that people are not compliant at all..

Infection = Exposure x time. Masks allow you to decrease the exposure and increase the time but they are not 100% effective.

Indoor crowded spaces are just not safe at this point.

Hard to take me seriously? I have been pretty spot on with my predictions.I predicted there will be a second round of shutdowns. Those are happening now in California and possibly Miami now, no? NJ and NYC will be lock down again in September.

And no no we will have no magical vaccine by January. Just a media hype job. Even if we do have a vaccine, the average Joe won't even get close to that Vaccine by 2022 or 2023. Vaccine distribution is another animal. Based on how things are going on in America now the elderly and minorities will be priority for vaccine distribution.

I'd go to my gym, a restaurant or a basketball game right now and not think twice about it.

And so would all of the people in Florida which is why their 7 day average of new hospitalizations is up to 370 new patients per day. Up from 107.

The one you first posted here has been fairly accurate.

Yes, one of the very few. If we believe this one (which I do), that means the death rate is around 0.5-0.55%. So we shut down the country and destroyed our way of life because of something that is survived by 99.5% of the people who contract it. Amazing and so uncalled for. An epic blunder of human arrogance and stupidity.

Oh my gosh, almost 400 people from a state of 21 million have to go to a hospital. Shut it down!

Was just speaking with my cousin about this who manages production for A Sanofi facility. His facility alone is about to produce 150 million doses of their vaccine that is currently in trials and they have several facilities like his ready to go.

Once these vaccines are approved, it will be a matter of months If not weeks before it is available to everyone.

Smh. These are people’s lives.

I get it... “people die”... but their hospital systems can not handle 400 new patients every day. That becomes a major problem eventually.

They didn’t even need to shut it down. All they had to do was wear masks indoors. That’s it.

Very scary. Not normal at all for vaccines to be created this quick. I can't imagine the side effects people will have from these vaccines.

How many deaths would be worth the economic cost for you?

Far more than have occurred already. We cannot live like this. We cannot have an economic system like this. We cannot have a country like this.

It is kind of sad where everyone is depending on a vaccine to get to normal again.

Epidemiologists estimates put herd immunity around 60%. Using your death rate of .5% is just under 1 million people.

You’re ok with 1 million people dying for the economy?

Not to mention the fact that if that infection spreads too rapidly, our healthcare system gets overwhelmed and the death rate starts to increase since we can’t treat everyone. Consumer panic sets it, millions lose their jobs anyway and you’ve let all of these people die anyone.

With 60% of the population acquiring the virus, the death rate is sure to be less than 0.5%. Probably half that, around 0.25%. This would bring the total death toll from start to finish to around 500,000.

Not sure what you are basing that .25% on. Well lower than any estimates out there currently.. and again, the pace of how this spreads increases that percentage.

In any case, I’d rather save the hundreds of thousands of lives and have the government provide money to people until science can catch up.

Are you concerned about the side effects of this vaccine? Will this vaccine shorten the life span of people?

Too early to tell at this point. Depends what the trials look like. I’ll judge it when they are approved.

Agreed, the numbers in Florida are not good either. On June 25th the available ICU beds were as follows

As of today there are 924 ICU beds available.

I believe Covid-19 represents a serious national health emergency. Not everyone on this board agrees.

Since July 8th, Florida has both increased their available ICU beds from 924 to 1249. Their total census of ICU beds increased as well from 6100 (approximately) to 6333

But for the most part, these people were not going to die right now. A comorbid condition is not an immediate death sentence. People live 30, 40 or more years with one of these conditions. It just seems we are too nonchalant about all of these people dying.
And no one focuses on the suffering that many infected people have and continue to live thru. They may have life long implications from this.
Or, stated another way, a comorbid condition.

Lol. That's not how this works.

The virus goes from person to person . It takes time to spread. Once that spread starts to have more opportunities to spread to a larger percentage of the population, hospitalizations start to increase.

That is what is happening.

So you think those other states will have spikes in deaths at some point?

Yes. States that are seeing a V shape in hospitalizations will start to see an increase in the number of deaths.

Following up on Florida.
Positive testing rate showed the virus was spreading which was an indicator that hospitalizations would be going up which was an indicator that deaths per day would go up.

my guy uploading screenshots of data he put in excel. pirate crew welcome to the 20th century!!

How about a graph of current hospitalizations in FL?

Sure. Only have since 7/10 available though.

Since that day, about 9,000 new admissions, 2,700 deaths and 5000 discharges.
Would be helpful if we could bucket these by week of admission, but this is all they have.

Hi all. The RT rate is climbing again in NJ. Not good. Not good at all. As Governor Murphy stated the Alarm bells are starting to go off again. The transmission rate is now above where it was when hospitalizations were at the peak. Unfortunately it looks like I will be correct. The Murphy NJ shutdown will come in September. August will not be a good month.

Not according to these numbers: https://rt.live/us/NJ

The CDC now has a very very grim projection. 20,000 more deaths in 3 weeks in the US. NJ is expected to see a spike of deaths in the next 4 weeks. Please be advised I was called a "fool" and "Nut Job" for saying Murphy will close the state in September. Even @Merge is saying this will not happen. But unfortunately I will be correct. This will be brutal to the economy. NJ will be closed to mid October and open up a couple weeks before the election.

Schools may close, but I really doubt we are not going to go backwards on anything else.

You'll be wrong! Its alright if you don't want to listen to me! I have been right about a lot of things the last few months. But Murphy's your guy! I'm sure you will support the September shut down!

Not my guy at all.

I would support a shutdown if the data supported doing so but we are no where close to that, and I don’t believe we will get there.

Unless we start to see a huge increase in hospitalizations here, it doesn’t make sense to shut down again.

Two main factors in my mind behind our embarrassing, careless & deadly response to Covid:

- We've seen a complete lack of coordinated federal response, both epidemiological & economic. The administration's interests seem to fall in this order:
1. reelection
2a. grifting
2b. owning the blue states
end of list.

Back in January they could have told him "control the virus, get reelected". Maybe someone actually did & that criminal piece of shit just didn't listen. But a containment success was fool-proof path to electoral college reelection against a terrible candidate like Biden. Instead they didn't try...and here we are. Pelosi & Mitch are pretending to be too caught up on federal spending & the idea that people are collecting money while not working which is so ****ing galaxy brained I'll stroke out if I think about it too much.

2. Individualism, opposed to collectivism. "Me, not Us". "Masks are tyranny." It's just grotesque how selfish some people are.

This great Vanity Fair investigative article covers alot of aspects of #1, especialy in regards to the Kushner grift.
