Dr. Fauci gives grim projection

It almost seems as if you are happy that millions of people are losing their jobs and that citizens are imprisoned in their own homes. Are you advocating for a socialist dictatorship in America?

Please explain how practicing social distancing for months translates into wearing masks for the rest of our lives. Please explain how businesses in NJ can open in 2021 when you have said a vaccine won't be available until 2022. You have some real cockamamie theories.

You are absolutely clueless, or simply a troll looking to get a rise out of people.

Because Dr. Birx is just hinting on what will be to come. And I am definitely not for the dictatorship type ruling our governor's now have. Like I said on another post this is very scary because once we are in a "climate crisis" governor's will decide to shut down economies and put everyone on lock down again.

Ahh, the "climate crisis." Don't even get me started on that. I am glad to hear you do not support the powers our nation's governors are now seizing.

I think we are on the same page Shu09. I think you understand when I say "climate crisis" as well. This is very scary to me as well. But unfortunately this what will come. This is a test run for the lockdowns for the "climate crisis" lockdowns that will occur in years to come.

You could write a Sci-Fi movie script that would be scary.

Government develops and releases the virus. Issues stay at home and business shutdown. Federal secret police raid homes of registered gun owners and people "unfriendly to the state." Major businesses are confiscated by the government. People are secretly executed and vanished. People start to realize what is happening. Resistance movement forms. Battle ensues. Resistance prevails over totalitarian state. Throw in a few gratuitous sex scenes and it could be a great Netflix series. Could easily get 5 seasons out of it!

Unfortunately, some people believe that is what is happening today.

So let me get you straight. Are you fearful of the virus and supportive of these lockdowns, believing the virus is a threat to all people (as opposed to older and at risk folks)? Or are you sounding the alarm like I am that governments will use this to expand their power and control over the people?

If there was a “Red Wedding” scene that included the cast of The View getting wiped out, I’m all in

I do believe that the virus is dangerous to high at risk people. My predictions are as I see it. The government will have this power for a very long time now. Ordering people to wear faces masks and social distance for the rest of our lives.

Yes shu09 the virus is a threat to all people regardless of age with those of a certain age extra compromised, those with other preexsting health issues extra compromised...government is in a lose lose scenario if they let things run course many will say they didnt do enough to protect citizens, they tighten down people say they did too much, ultimately with this we will see the blue collar worker effected, eduation to students effected and a large mental wellness issue come out of this

If all this comes to pass we should acknowledge all sports are going to suffer. Fewer games, no fans, less coverage, less money. ESports will take its place...People in NYC will begin to migrate to the suburbs because the reasons to live in a city are now a disadvantage socially and health wise. Commercial real estate will plunge especially in cities. Amazon and fulfillment models will grow even more dramatically. Malls which were hurting will be shuttered.

It is NOT a threat to all people. Stop believing the crap the mainstream media and government propagandists throw at you. 78.6% of NJ deaths have been 65 or older. Nearly half of total deaths are 80+. Nearly a third of all confirmed deaths have been in long term care facilities, and another 981 are "suspected" according to state data. If confirmed, that means nearly half of all the deaths are in long term care facilities.

The people are fed up. We will not be locked down in our homes, our economy ruined, when we are not at risk. The risk of death for anyone under 65 is extraordinarily low. People are waking up to this. We have been bamboozled by a government that seeks to control its people and implement forced vaccination.

The virus does not transmit outdoors. Yet we are being urged to stay inside. People going to parks, golf courses and beaches are being arrested. This is madness! The right strategy is to open up, contain new infections and urge people at risk to take precautions. Let the people decide how they want to live their lives, not millionaires in state houses and a billionaire in the White House.

15% of those aged 30-49 had to be admitted to a. Hospital. 2.2% of that age group who were confirmed to have it, have died.

Your definition of extraordinarily low is much different than mine... but in any case, we were staying home to limit the impact to the healthcare system. It worked and we are close to a point where we can open up and again and that risk will have been mitigated.

We have been bamboozled by a government that seeks to control its people and implement forced vaccination

Or they are trying to save millions of lives?

The virus does not transmit outdoors.

That is not settled science. Especially in crowds.

SHU09- I enjoy your posts but I do disagree with your take that the virus does not spread outdoors. I don't really think that question has been answered yet.

Ultraviolet light kills it, as it does to most viruses. It transmits most effectively in cooler, indoor environments.

if we start with the priority of ensuring healthcare capacity, I would advise those over 65 or with comorbitities, to limit all group interaction.Let businesses reopen and recommend distancing, hand washing and masks. Take temperature and log twice per shift.

94% of deaths from the largest study to date had comorbidities and an average age of 63. Keep collecting data and monitor healthcare capacity. Hospitals in PA are rescheduling elective surgeries next week. If they were concerned of an upturn you wouldn’t be seeing that.

We need to let people be responsible and let them have the data and make decisions.

Not if you listen to our feckless governor. He says we are several weeks away from opening.

267 people aged 30-49 have died in NJ. There are 35,663 cases among that age group. That's a 0.75% death rate, which is probably even lower because of the cases that aren't accounted for. Like I said, extraordinarily low.

Shu09 your rhetoric is no better than a person who knowingly has an std and willingly participates in sexual contact with another and puts that person at risk...or a restaurant kitchen cross contaminating someones food or serving undercooked chicken or serving soup that was not up to tempature to kill bacteria...you believe that people want to move on with their lives understood this idea that bars restaurants movie theatres gonna be filled with their new capacity marks i dont see it....right now there is no proven preventive measure outside of social distancing measures and isolation/face covering...this is our abstinence now

I generally agree with that. We know a lot more now than we did 6 weeks ago. Those at risk need to take extra precautions.

Taking temperature is good but won’t be enough when the symptoms show up so late (if at all) though. Still have to find away to identify this early and quarantine those infected.

Hi merge,

I am interested to see your look on the impact of Corona in the future. Do you think people will be wearing masks and practice social distancing for the rest of our lives? When will governor Murphy reopen non-essential businesses? This year or sometime in 2021?

My 2 cents, people will be wearing masks in the short term. Most will probably stop during the summer and we will see them again more during the winter. I don’t think it will be unusual to see people wearing them after that, but I don’t expect it will be the norm.

I do think there will be general social distancing recommendations until we have a vaccine, but they won’t be enforced.

I think we open non essential businesses sometime in May, but I don’t think schools will reopen this school year.

Merge, this is very reasonable. I think we would all sign for that.

There will be an adjustment period in every industry. Not sure what things will look like. Some people will be afraid and will take extra precautions. Some people probably won’t take any precautions at all.

Going to be acrylic barriers everywhere, dealers will have them in front of them and players will have them separating each other. I know because I work for a company that manufactures the substrate and our plant is sold out thru end of the year trying to match the demand from all industries.

This is the key. The economic sectors that are hurt the most right now rely on people going out and spending money. Are they willing to do that this summer to anything resembling a normal standard, which is needed to "reignite" things? If they are younger and in good health they will unlikely die, but are they afraid to deal with a bad respiratory illness 2-3 weeks without the reassurance of a treatment? Is there confidence in the short term?

Secondly, do they have the money to do that? The bills have been piling. Banks will be fine, big industry will be saved, of course, but people getting this government stipend or unemployment, where are they going?

This virus has certainly created winners and losers. I feel for the people who have lost their jobs and have an uncertain future if their company decides to re-engineer things while they are shut down. But if you’re fortunate enough to keep working and your company has transitioned to WFH, it’s really an opportunity to save a lot of money.

I would prefer to be stimulating the economy, but we are saving a ton of money right now. Restaurant dinners are limited to take out, no concerts, no entertainment, reduced commuting expenses, no golf, no entertaining friends at our house, etc. My neighbors wife is a shopaholic. The first day short hills mall opens up I can’t imagine the damage she’s going to do.

Once Murphy gets off his *** and opens the golf courses, I'll be out there every weekend.

Here’s a good example of over engineering the rules. In PA you can walk the cart paths on a golf course with your wife and friends, but you can’t do the same thing carrying a bag of clubs.

Yup, it's so stupid. Government lacks common sense. Golf is open in NY, CT and DE. Thinking of heading up to Rockland or Putnam county to play this weekend if NJ doesn't open the courses this week.

Thankfully the weather hasn't been cooperative for golf most of this month, so we're not missing many great golf days.

I apologize if this has been specifically discussed already. I was listening to the news this morning and they were taking about it. I looked back on the posts and only found light references to this.

I know we have discussed certain cohorts being more vulnerable than others but this is even more telling.

Italy claimed 99+% of those who died had pre-existing conditions.

New York is claiming 86%

High blood pressure and diabetes were the biggest.

Perhaps this data will have a greater influence on people taking care of themselves.

Our company instituted big wellness discounts on medical insurance this year. Good BP, BMI, No-Nicotine, LDL, and Glucose were rewarded.

Somewhat sad that it takes money or a pandemic to make people wake up.

I went through two elder care situation for the last five years. Both had two page list of medications. Same deal for the other residents. Their world revolved around the drug cart.

I take no medications and hope to keep it that way as long as I can.

Makes a lot of sense. Curious how that worked. Can you quantify the discount? Percentage of premiums, or other?

I hope so, but not optimistic there. Would take a large cultural shift.

People have to take personal responsibility for their health. Simply relying on the healthcare system or a magic pill won't cut it.

In our society that responsibility means you have to self-educate to understand what to eat, moderation, exercise, building good habits. And we do not make it easy. The Food Industrial Complex has made eating poorly much less expensive than eating healthy these days, along with tricky marketing tactics.
