Dr. Fauci gives grim projection

Children as vectors has not been proven. It is assumed by some, but there is little evidence that they result in a dramatic increase in cases.

Right. There is still a lot we don't know. It hasn't been proven, though it has also not been proven that they didn't/don't impact the spread.

We are managing risk, and that is one of the unknowns currently.

This has become another opportunity to see how inept our government is as well and people questioning over-reach.

For the last three months, the vast majority of the population has been compliant to every restriction the federal and state governments have put in place because we were warned that hundreds of thousands or millions of people would die and our hospitals would be over-run. But all of that has gone out the window since George Floyd was killed. If I had a small business, I would have been fined if opened, but no warnings, plans much less consequences for tens of thousands that protest/riot.

Where is the truth?

The truth is that we were right that hundreds of thousands to millions of people would die from the virus and our hospitals (in some areas) would have been overrun had we done nothing.

It is unfortunately likely that these protests will likely have an impact on the spread of the virus where they are occurring.
You're not wrong that it is unfair that there are no plan/consequences for the protests while small businesses are hurting.

Just one point of clarification....I was not suggesting doing nothing should have been the plan.

I think nothing among the under 65 population (aside from common sense precautions on an individual basis) would have been the right approach. We should have put in place measures to protect the over 65 population as we knew from China and Italy that they are at the greatest risk.

But instead we put 40 million people out of work who otherwise would have had little to low risk from this virus.

i think youre completely disregarding the measures put in place actually helped get the "not that bad" results you keep talking about. without anything in place NYC quite literally could have had a 100% infection rate and the hospitals would have been a disaster. what then?

i dont think any answer is easy, and theyre all bad solution to an unfortunate problem. The govt took a strong stance in being extra careful. It worked and now people are saying it wasnt that bad at all.

the truth is in the middle of the spectrum.

The government stance did not work, all it did was close schools and put millions out of work. Novel viruses run their course regardless of what we do.

New York City would never have a 100% rate. You'd start to get herd immunity as you approached 60, 70 percent.

for what its worth 65 is not old at all. i think people act like 65 is one foot in the grave. its not. what % of this board is 65+ ?

16% of NJ population is over 65, so 80% is pretty disproportionate.

right and that age group is not the walking dead what dont you get.
What does walking dead mean? They are the most physically at risk, which is what this virus attacked the most:.

ahh. im saying that people here 65+ and dismiss these people that they dont matter. that they are close to death so who cares.

im saying 65 isnt old anymore

It's also not working age for most folks. The vast majority of workers who the government shut down are under 65 and at low risk.

New York city wants to move to outdoor dining. How is that gonna work with the rioters?

Easy if the rioters are hungry they can just snatch food away from patrons as they continue their vigilantism
Sounds like a great business model for success. I think th DiBlasio would support that....lol

On another front, DeSantis took a lot of heat for his response to COVID early on. But looks like he made the right decisions relative to nursing homes and treating Florida on a county by county basis.

Here's my question - are these peaceful protests allowed to carry on indefinitely? What happened to the social distancing guidelines? How can you force citizens and businesses to adhere by the COVID-19 restrictions while allowing protesters to be exempt?

Lets say you're in Asbury Park where they had a peaceful protest this week and outdoor dining is set to resume - if you're in the middle of the protest you can be touching people next to you, standing without a mask, etc. but if you're at a restaurant right beside it each table must be 6 feet apart in all directions? It makes no sense.

These measures were put in place because we were told it was necessary to stop the spread and save lives. What happened to George Floyd was a tragedy and I fully support the right to peacefully protest, but you can't pick and choose which causes are worth dismissing the COVID-19 restrictions when we've been told they are necessary to save thousands of lives.

Either open the state back up or enforce the rules that we've all to adhere by for nearly 3 months on the protests.

Yes, this just shines the light on how inept our politicians are. Complete joke. Instead about thinking “D” or “R”, maybe we should value leadership and common sense!

Agreed. Just goes to show you the measures put in place were primarily about control. Your health is a secondary concern.

We are an absolute mess. In every way. Don't expect it to get any better with a Presidential Election 5 months away. Fact and fiction are dancing.

It's at travesty.

Please note these protestors will make this virus a lot worse. I predicted a second wave this fall. Now this second wave will begin in a couple weeks. All of these protestors are going back to their hometowns and spreading the disease. This virus takes no days off. This virus does not known any race or creed. We are in for the long haul. The worst is yet to come with this virus, folks.

I have my hazmat suit on, I hope you do too.

Will do! Not good at all. Terrible how this virus will wreck havoc on us again. As a precaution I am now wearing a mask in my house. Almost 3 months since I have been outside now. It will be a lot worse!

The coronavirus response scam becomes a bigger joke by the day: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/08/asy...-arent-spreading-new-infections-who-says.html

Open everything. No restrictions. If you're sick, stay home. .

Asymptomatic =/= presymptomatic =/= paucisymptomatic =/= symptomatic.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMe2009758

"An important finding of this report is that more than half the residents of this skilled nursing facility (27 of 48) who had positive tests were asymptomatic at testing. "

Instead we kept people locked in their homes for three months where, as it turns out, transmission occurs much more easily

Not sure how you are coming up with that?

Glad you're not in office! I don't trust that analysis by the WHO. Think about it. If you're asymptomatic you are unaware of having it. How do you know if you're spreading the disease or not?

Also covid 19 cases are going up in southern states that are opening up. Where's the narrative that said these states wouldn't show spikes anymore.

@shu09 From the WHO- The pandemic is getting worse globally. Record high total number of cases on Sunday. As I have been saying for months now this is only the beginning. The worst is yet to come. We are talking the next 2 years at least. And by then the US government will be making mask mandates for a very long time. One article said US malls could be mandating face coverings at least for the for the next 10 year. I think its going to be longer than that.

The article.

I can respect your opinion on the topic, but the article did not suggest that the virus spreads more at home.

If you’re saying that enclosed spaces are a greater risk, sure. I agree with that but the lockdown worked because we stayed home, not in spite of it.

Also every study I have read seems to agree that it does spread from people without symptoms or with mild symptoms... so “if you’re sick, stay home” would not have worked. The reason it spread so quickly was because people didn’t know they had it.

They said secondary asymptomatic transmission is rare. They said it can occur in nursing homes and households. "She acknowledged that some studies have indicated asymptomatic or presymptomatic spread in nursing homes and in household settings."
