Face Coverings now REQUIRED outdoors in NJ

1st amendment.

"Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble"

Last I checked the mayor of New York is not Congress and assembling in a restaurant is peaceful.

To some degree forcing the 6-ft limit and mask in an abridgement of the right to assemble in a restaurant or a beach or any outdoor venue.

If you make the argument that they are doing this on behalf of people's health then apply it to everybody and everywhere.

14th amendment applied the 1st to the states.

Freedom of assembly does not mean freedom to go to a restaurant.
If you think it does, by all means, file a lawsuit against the government.
Good luck.

The state of Georgia's health department reported 4,484 new cases of COVID-19. That's a daily record for the state of Georgia. Whatever happened to the people that were saying on this board Georgia did a great job with the reopening?

7-day death rate in GA continues to spiral down, how come you don't talk about that?

Deaths in the US down for the third straight day, how come you don't talk about that?

The death rate will go up in the next couple weeks. It will catch up with the increase in cases. Why don't you talk about the record number of cases in Georgia? I guess you think Georgia, Florida, Texas, and California have some a fantastic job controlling the virus?

If Covid is spreading Now. Hospitalizations will go up in the future. If hospitalizations are going up now, deaths will go up in the future.

Covid is spreading in Georgia as evidenced by the fact that there are 3x as many Covid patients in the hospital now as there were a month ago.

Neither one of you get the benefit of saying deaths will increase at a later time as both of you have been spouting this for weeks now to no avail.

What, no mention of the really low death rates in those states?

Nope. I said if states are not taking it seriously enough, hospitalizations will increase which will lead to an increase to in deaths.

That is what is happening in the south right now. Hospitalizations increased and deaths are increasing.

I agree!

One thing that I do believe is some of the current spread that is going on in the south is due to the various BLM protests. It is a ashame that the democratic mayor's of these cities cannot denounce these protests because of the spread of the virus. It is all politics.

Mayor de Blasio cancelled all large group events until September except for BLM protests.

Remember, it is about control and changing behavior. Not about health.

When you accept that, everything that is going on makes sense and you can connect the dots to the agenda of those in power.
how does making people wear a mask outside benefit murphy? what kind of control is this? what will it prevent people from doing or not doing? they also know that most people wont listen, gotta exaggerate to get people to remotely listen

It's about the future. Precedent for going a step further in the future. Take a little now, take some more later, take it all after that. It's the erosion of civil liberties that has been going on for almost two decades now. It is now accelerating faster than ever. The government never lets a crisis go to waste.

Remember after 9/11 when people said that tapping phones and monitoring emails would be okay because they are law-abiding citizens and have nothing to hide? Look what that led to.

Precedent is a huge part of US code. Once you establish it, it gets easier to take more and more in the future.

Hi @SPK145 still waiting on you to answer my question? Have the states of Florida, Georgia, Texas, and California done a fantastic job controlling/containing the virus?

Also please comment on Florida death rates. Last couple days have seem record highs in that state. The great governor of Florida claimed victory weeks ago. But that was now obviously way too soon.

Back to Florida. I remember people on this board were calling me a "moron" weeks ago for saying Florida opened up too early. These aren't good numbers! Not at all. @SPK145 any comment? These are covid related deaths first 11 days of July. Where is the great governor of Florida declaring victory?

1) Nobody at any level of government has done a good job in handling this. I've said that many times here but you don't want to ever refer to that.

2) Comparatively speaking, realizing point 1 above, they have done a better job:

State = Pos Rate, Death Rate, Hosp Rate%
US = 8.2%, 3.9%, 8.1%
CA = 5.9%, 2.2%, N/A
FL = 10.3%, 1.7%, 7.2%
GA = 10.7%, 2.6%, 11.5%
TX = 10.3%, 1.2%, N/A

3) The 2 biggest days for deaths in FL were July 9 and May 5. A statement like "record number of deaths" is misleading and inflammatory when you see that the numbers are so minuscule compared to the total population of FL.

Again, for the umpteenth time, this isn't good but it's also not a death sentence.

I don’t think it’s wrong to be skeptical of government actions. But, I believe you have said you would support similar actions if the mortality rate were higher, right?

So then it wouldn’t be about control?

Is it possible that these politicians just have a lower threshold than you do?

John Berman is an idiot:

Area = Total Deaths, Population, Death Rate%
Florida = 4301, 21400000, 0.02%
Canada = 8773, 37600000, 0.02%
Italy = 34945, 60400000, 0.06%
France = 30004, 66900000, 0.04%
Germany = 9134, 83100000, 0.01%

Don't know man... you were pretty quick to go after those who said it will take time to understand what is happening in Florida.

In the first 11 days of July, Florida has almost as many New Covid hospitalizations than they did the entire month of June.

Some of us saw what was happening but were met with nothing but snarky comments from those who disagreed.

Again, for the umpteenth time, this isn't good but it's also not a death sentence.

No one here said it is.
About 1% of the people who get it will die.

Around 3-5% of the people who get it will require care in a hospital.

If people get infected too rapidly, it will stress our healthcare systems which could have capacity issues.

We are starting to see that in states that did not take the threat seriously enough... and we should not compare those states to New York.

They got advance warning. They got to see what was happening in New York, learn from it and adapt... but they didn’t.

You're kidding, right? This tweet from a sportswriter (who knows nothing about this) is incredibly deceptive and misleading. Intentionally, most likely.

Let's compare deaths in those places from February and March if we want to cherry pick. The virus is active in Florida right now. It wasn't in the winter/early spring, when it was in those places he mentions. This is a big reason why twitter is the worst.

The South failed at the Civil War and the South is failing at Covid prevention and recovery

SHU09 covid didnt arrive in florida just because it felt like it. Lot of northeast winter/spring birds, total lack of containment in general, no social distancing, no mask wearing, a pro baseball player went food shopping in tampa area this past week and people called him a pansy inside the market for having a face mask on. Again for me, florida a great place to visit up to a week, not somewhere i would choose as full time residence.

Hi All- as I have been saying for months now. See below link. A health expert has now confirmed we will be wearing masks and social distancing for the next several years. Please note I have been saying this for months now. We will not even be close to immunity to maybe the end of 2022. We are truly in this for the long haul. Not wearing masks in indoor events in my opinion is done. We will be wearing masks for the rest of of our lives.

NY state did not have a covid related death yesterday for the first time since Mid March...NY NJ got kid the hardest at on outset of this for the region and you know this....Florida since July 1 785 deaths in a state of 21.4 mil, more deaths in month of July than germany canada france italy, take that for data

So DeSantis was right to quarantine residents of NY and NJ?

There needs to be an investigation of Johns Hopkins. Is it just a coincidence that they planned "Event 201" and all of a sudden this happens a few months later and they are immediately the authority on case counts and information? Seems fishy to me.

Also a frightening article. Un-elected, biased doctors and so-called "health experts" admit they don't read the Constitution and then make an interpretation of it and say this is the way it must be.

You want to make everything with a R or D in it. Any governor should use all legal means to flatten the curve with something like this. I dont oppose quarantine of out of state travelers who are not full time residents by any state against any other state. We are 4 months in and the south and southwest are not trending well. I just feel on a global scale all 50 states are not United here and its been a big F.

Maybe because they have one of the best epidemiology programs in the country, so it makes sense they would be studying implications for a global pandemic and track one when it happens?

The virus they modeled for the event is also nothing like Covid-19.
