Rapinoe!!!

Which is why I think the entire argument is misguided. The women get a salary and benefits through the USWNT. The men are on a bonus pay structure. Based on what I've read, the pay to the USMNT and USWNT is not vastly different after the latest collective bargaining agreement.

Offer the women the same exact pay structure as the men and see what happens. Will they give up their salary and benefits for the bonus based model? Because the salaries in the NWSL are pretty low, the USWNT salaries probably help support the women through the non World Cup and Olympic years. Maybe they'd make the same as they do now during the non-tournament years, but the $100k salary is probably a nice guarantee for them.

The only thing worth debating is the USMNT and USWNT payments from the USSF. The rest isn't worth comparing as it has nothing to do with the USMNT and USWNT. Unfortunately no one is articulating that point. It's just a bunch of people yelling equal pay without knowing all of the facts. Just give them the same exact payment and bonus structure tied to revenue or net income and be done with it.

Also, Cuomo is an idiot.

Agreed on all points. I think the governor is an idiot. I actually think is brother is brilliant on the radio, but I won't watch his TV show.

I know one issue and this I side with the women, the men get a $75 dollar stipend per day they are with the USMNT( number is off but it’s the point) which includes food and other things. The Uswnt May get $40. There’s no reason there should be a difference... but people continue to drag the USMNT through the mid and day sexist this sexist that.... when the ones who should be getting the brunt of it all are the union reps who negotiated their contracts. No one says a damn word about them, and the fact the players have to agree to the contract. The women are taking advantage of the movement which I get, but all this falls on their players reps and them...

But going to congress is any different???
Never said it was. Simply said he doesn’t give the woman a respectful forum, nothing else. Don’t read more into my statement than it is, I could give a flying eff about politics and think both sides are bloated with asses.

People are so damn political that every statement is exacerbated. I simply used a history of the man showing lack of respect for those who disagree (anyone dispute that?) and saying why should she walk into a losing situation? You people make that statement political. I think it’s just common sense.

And she says we all need to speak less and listen more. Coming from her that is really rich.

No matter what you think of trump...

Do you really think she’d have time or they would allow her more then seconds one on one with trump???

He’ll take a photo op in the rose garden then one in the oval she will be whisked away within seconds.

This is how it works maybe a handshake and she could say a few words built that’s the most face to FaceTimethey would have.

Most of her time would have been spent eating cold McDonald’s.

Here’s the thing, the women’s team relies on what they make from playing for the national team, they get paid very little from the NWSL teams or club teams, and rely on the money they get paid for friendly’s, tournaments, etc. I really don’t think they get much other than the World Cup, same with the men’s team. Morgan, Lloyd, Rapinoe can probably do decently with sponsorship deals, but most of the players don’t get much of that because the popularity isn’t there.

Now the men for the most part do not need the money being paid by the USSF. Bradley is the highest paid player in the mls, around 6-7 million.. Altidore is up there too. Adams, Mckinnie, Brooks, Yedlin, and Pulisic do very well in Europe and don’t need the extra income from friendly’s, and other games. Again the one time they make good money is the World Cup. Not all the players make great money, most of the other mls guys make ok money but not Bradley or Altidore money...

The women rely on the check for USSF. This is more important for them because of the lack of money coming in from club teams. Because of the money being made by club teams you won’t hear the men say a word because it’s a non issue. Only time I’ve ever heard a men’s team have an issue are teams from Africa who don’t have players making big money from club teams and for many this is their one chance to make decent money.
I couldn't pick any if these names out of a line-up. Thesec are businesses. Players are paid based on revenue.

It’s us who make everything political? Not the people kneeling during the anthem, it’s us who make things political. Lol Freedoms must be at a minimum in the USA that there are no other options for voicing your displeasure.

She’s willing to speak to any one who shares her beliefs, but not those who don’t. Isn’t the point to express her views to those who don’t share her beliefs and have an open debate? You know she speaks, they listen, then they speak, she listens. Then you repeat that over and over trying to find middle ground.

isn’t that more of the false media narrative about Trump? He’s given audiences to people that are not his supporters and in some cases not only heard their point of view but acted on it. I’m not a fan of hers, but didn’t he do that with Kim Kardashian getting that woman’s sentence commuted?

Someone told me along time ago that you will fail 100% of the time if you don’t try. As an athlete, she should know that better than most.

Do you know how much U.S. Olympic athletes get paid ? Zero dollars . The only pay a US Olympian receives is if they medal .$25,000 for gold , $15,000 for silver and $10,000 for bronze and the US Olympic committee rakes in large sums of money during the Olympics and leading up to it. They participate because of their love of competition and the dream of representing their country in the Olympics not because of a pay check.

Which is ridiculous and the women have every right to be upset about that. Travel accommodations, stipends, etc. should all be the same.

My frustration is that this has now taken away from the achievement of winning back-to-back World Cups. I know that this is the moment where the equal pay argument will get the most attention, but can't we at least enjoy the USWNT for a few days without everything being so politicized and divisive? Hold a press conference at the end of this week and air out all of your complaints, but at least allow the days after winning the World Cup to be a time of celebration and not political bickering. And I don't think the USWNT is driving this. It is the media, politicians, etc.

And now that politicians are involved I've reached my breaking point. It's just a hot topic for them to attach their names to so they can pander to their audience. How many of them realize that government interference in a soccer federation is a FIFA violation? How many of them care? They just want to ride the coattails of this moment.

Settle the lawsuit if that's what makes the most sense. Give them the same pay structure and move on. If people really want the women's game to grow and want these women to be paid more go out and support your local NWSL team. Growing that league should be the primary focus.

It doesn't seem to be stopping the actual team from enjoying it. Everything I've seen from the parade to the ESPYs they seem to be having a great time (and have seemingly been drunk for three days).

And the issue is these players get paid absolutely nothing by the NWSL. The NWSL average attendance is 2-3k a game. The NWSL has not taken off like the mls did like they hoped it would. Compare it to the men which average something like 23k and you have Atlanta and Seattle who average over 40k a game. And the Uswnt players play in this league, so why can’t they get more than a few thousand in the seats then if they are so marketable.. and the NWSL has been around for a while, it’s not brand new

And the players on Uswnt are fighting for a select few players. The rosters from game to game don’t change a whole lot unlike the men’s team who have dozens of players get will call up and utilize in the player pool. So this is great from a small group of players, what about the hundreds struggling in the NWSL who have to room with 4-6 other teammates because they can’t afford housing. No one says a damn thing about them.

I don't know all the numbers so I can't say that all travel accomodations, etc should be eqaul. I think that could be the equivalent of saying SPU and Duke should have the same travel accomodations. It's just not the way it works. At the same time who knows how much of the womens profit is going towards growing the game. Should they take from there? Everyone has answers but nobody has the true numbers in front of their face to evaluate.

Does the NWSL make any $$$.

I know it is struggling... Alex Morgan and a few of the other high profile players make $56,000 a season, after that the max is 36 or 37k a season, that’s the MAX.. I remember reading that a lot of players make a few hundred dollars a week. Can the NWSL capitalize on this World Cup??? Everyone keeps saying how much better the women’s game is then the men’s... well put your money where your mouth is, go buy a ticket go see a few games

Don’t agree with you on this, and it’s not travel accommodations or where they are staying. No player is paying for hotel, or flight. But should be no reason why the daily stipend should be any different from women to men.. this isn’t a salary. It’s like saying this guy gets more in mileage reimbursement because he has a Lexus than you do because you have a Corolla.

Gotcha. If its not profitable, the reality of the situation is there just isn't enough $$$ to pay them anymore.

Disagree with you on this I do think there are many on the national team who are probably sick of this. But Rapione isn't so it's going to be a thing until her time in the sun is over. She went on all those mainstream talks shows right after they won. She could have put it to bed for a while to celebrate but hasn't. I'm right there with you. I couldn't watch the ticker tape parade which I went to four years ago because I'm so sick of all the other stuff. Also, your last part is my biggest issue with all this. This team and all their effort should be spent trying to grow the NWSL. That is how these women will ultimately get paid. The men live off the wages they make playing for their clubs, not their country. With that said half these women will end up in Europe soon enough when those leagues start dumping big money.

Are you taking the client who brings in $500 a year to the same high end restaurant as the client that brings in $500,000 per year? Again I don't know the numbers. This is all based on a budget. I assume in most companies a salesman who produces more has more benefits when traveling than the salesman who doesn't produce as much.

Which is weird because the USMNT is used as a marketing tool for MLS by the USSF and the powers that be. They should be driving as much attention as possible to the NWSL teams that the USWNT players are on. Fan events, ticket promotions, etc. Capitalize on the moment and try and build some momentum for the league.

The numbers are the numbers. While the product is good, the interest in women's soccer is akin to an Olympic sport. There really is no market (and the professional league numbers are proof) for fan interest/revenue except hen there is a World Cup. I'm going to go out on a limb, but would wager by August 1, most American's that watched it, would not even be able name a player on the team, even "that loudmouth player with the short pink hair"

This is crap. The confidence they bring to girls and women around the world is to be admired. No issue with the celebrations / "showmanship."

My 6 year old daughters watched them and said, "Daddy, girls can play soccer better than some boys?!" I said, of course, they work very hard. "Daddy, then why do the boys in my class say girls are bad at sports?"

Because those boys are not very smart.

You can be part of something that accomplishes those things and still be a jerk. They don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

It’s great that they won and that their achievements set a positive example for young girls, but there are still some personalities on that team that I don’t necessarily like...not for their views, but just for being annoying.

Same goes for any successful team you may be a fan of.... just because you are fan of a team in any sport doesn’t mean you have to be a fan of the conduct of everyone on it.

this equality thing is what the media is talking about meanwhile there is some massively big time stuff going on behind the scenes (epstein) that is getting no attention.

you deserve lower pay because nobody cares about womens soccer. thats what you deserve. move along. problem oriented person.
