AOC - dumbest human on earth

You are doubling down on ignorance of history and constitutional process.

Accordingly, should we switch the discussion to the price of croissants at LaGuardia?

Not really, her point was how popular democrats were in bold times and FDR's popularity did lead to the 22nd amendment. If FDR decided not to run that last time, we may not have had the 2nd amendment.. not to say it wouldn't have come up again at some point, but historically speaking her point was valid.

Whatever floats your boat.

Here is what she said:

"They had to amend the Constitution of the United States to make sure Roosevelt did not get reelected"

The passing of 22nd was not done to do that. The discussions go back to George Washington. When they formed the 22nd they grandfathered FDR's 4th term. Given the hurdle to ratify an amendment her implication that this was partisan has no merit.

If you ignore context in both cases, then sure. She was wrong.

Had FDR not run for his last term, would we have the 22nd amendment?
If you are honest about that discussion, her point is valid.

AOC is fabulous. Her syntax was garbled and her command of the facts is a little shaky but I admire a young person trying to learn about the history of our country. She's growing up right in front of our eyes.

I suspect you haven't heard her most recent economic treatise on the price of croissants. It's a beaut!

I didn't. She is not an idiot. She knew exactly what would happen with that tweet. She knew people would attack her for it and she wants to shape the narrative. Conservatives are making a mistake by focusing on her.

Truly. Unlike Trump..... right?.
When he Tweets he's an idiot. When she tweets she's a genius.

You can't seriously believe that she scripted that for the purpose you describe. You ascribe way too much credit to her.

She was articulating a sophmoric thesis about "unfair prices".

I agree that conservative should not spend too much time focusing on her.

That's really not who they're focusing on. They're focusing on the fact that a good part of the Democratic party is standing behind her and give her an ounce of credibility.

I personally hope she keeps it up. Beyond the entertainment value it will awaken people to how delusional the far left is.

No, exactly like Trump.

Trump's not an idiot. He knows what he was/is doing too.
They are playing the same game.

You can't seriously believe that she scripted that for the purpose you describe.

I do because less than 30 minutes later she had her response.

"GOP taking every tweet so earnestly, making my point for me. It’s not an argument against the price of a croissant - it’s about the value of human worth. But I guess that idea is foreign to them since their policies treat people as disposable anyway"

I'd be willing to bet that second tweet was drafted before she hit send on the first one.

I personally hope she keeps it up. Beyond the entertainment value it will awaken people to how delusional the far left is.

Again, that will be a short sighted mistake.
Like Barr inviting AOC to Kentucky to meet with coal miners. Remember this post when she goes to Kentucky and gets people there interested in her policies.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm ready to lead a revolt against $7 dollar croissants. I'm more fired up about this than the Iraqi Invasion of '03.

The croissant, in all its buttery and flaky goodness, should be universally affordable. In fact, whoever the first candidate to make their campaign slogan "$2 dollar croissants for all," has my vote no matter what.

Of course it's not about the price of croissants.

Don't think for a second that anybody thinks that is what she's tweeting about. She is tweeting about the minimum wage and trying to frame it around human dignity.

That is a sophomoric argument, probably garnered while she was in some coffee house on campus with other beatniks snapping their fingers while they listened to jazz.

I can tell you from personal experience, croissants in Saint Barts are two dollars and are so much better than anything you get here. Talk about a travesty.

Of course it is sophomoric... That is the point.
She put a dumb argument out there to try and get the right to jump on the red meat and they did.

She then gets to frame the narrative that the GOP is more obsessed with criticizing her than discussion the value of human worth... etc...

Meanwhile, Tim Ryan announces his candidacy today and barely a mention on any news sites. I guess showing leadership, being measured in your comments and acting like an adult doesn’t attract flies with the MSM.

Neither Trump or AOC are idiots. The idiots were their opponents, who totally underestimated them. Both have actually been brilliant as to how they have manipulated the system to advance their message.

I don't buy the dumb like a fox argument.

I think she is thinking out loud and can't get her head around haves and have nots, let alone the basic mechanics of the economy.

Getting click share by being outrageous has it's limits.

Neither are idiots.

Despite all of the evidence supporting the contrary...

I think the title of this thread is weak.

I think calling somebody an idiot just because you don't agree with them is equally weak. If you look at the definition of the word idiot neither Trump nor AOC fit the definition.

Trump has character flaws that warrant criticism as does AOC's grasp
of economics.

Again... cum laude from BU majoring in economics... Not saying she is the worlds greatest economist, but I'm betting she has a handle on the mechanics.

She's not selling economic theory. She has been saying her target voters are people who don't vote. She is trying to engage people who don't normally participate. You don't do that with economic theory (unfortunately)

In her defense, we've had the best of the best from Harvard, Yale, and Princeton running us into 20 trillion of debt, we might as well give her economic theories a look. For once if people can look at things objectively not along party lines and say this is great or this sucks, we might be able to move forward.

Who does this...as President of the United States?

An idiot does this. And if you're so concerned with clinical definitions, I can come up with a bunch of other words that work. None of them are complimentary. It's not a me problem, friend. It's them.

I just saw she tweeted republicans do not want to talk about the root of immigration which is climate change. I'm buffled. What does climate change have to do with people migrated to the US? @Merge, I'm sure you have the answer. Makes no sense to me, but hopefully someone can make sense of it for me. Why would people want to come to a country with such a terrible climate change attitude.

She said one major factor, not THE major factor. Important distinction.

I don't really care to get into another debate on climate change here. I think we've exhausted that discussion. But she is right in that we haven't focused enough on why people are fleeing their countries.

I'd like to see those asylum applications that list climate change as the reason for coming here.....

Let's start with violence, drugs, sex trafficking, poverty, and corruption. I think there's enough there to keep us busy before we get to HVAC issues.

The fact that she considers it a factor at all, let alone a major factor, is a testament to her lack of intellect.

Yes, I have seen the arguments that weakly try to tie climate to change to the South American migration so don't bother posting links to them.

To the degree the climate is changing, it is changing everywhere. Why do we not see a massive migration of Lapps? I am sure the reindeer are feeling the heat.

Feel free to make jokes about it, but when a change in climate (regardless if it is natural cyclical activity or human activity) results in a negative impact on your ability to feed your family, you leave.

Same can be said for socialism principles that are not working.

The most fundamental characteristic of socialism is state owned production.

No one is pushing for state owned production.

Ok, but that doesn't change the possibility that these people are migrating beause of socialism more than climate change

But I thought climate change in Venezuela was creating the chaos!
Don't underestimate the amount of cow farts influencing people to move out of their home country. But why would they migrate here if we have the same problem?

What is the same problem you are referring to?
I keep hearing we're a big part of the problem of climate change and within 12 years the world may even end if we don't address climate change. Why wouldn't they go to a country that is more friendly to the idea of dealing with climate change.
