Jersey Shore Nightclub Closes for 2020 Summer

Another chart highlighting the NYC metro as the epicenter.

I know it is old news but the data is staggering.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covid19-death-rates-us-by-state/

And you blame Trump. Look at the data. This is a largely NY problem.

Are you going to tell me DeBlasio handled this well?

I commend Cuomo for his performance.

Europeans had air travel to nyc metro area for months which brought that strand of covid to the area

What should the president have done differently in your opinion?
Had better rhetoric on it from way back now oh its 15 cases now and soon it will be 0...in general pissed away weeks vs having a more proactive strategy througout the country and specifically to those areas of more severe breakout...hypothetically one would hope we would be at advanced stage of decline/flattening by now

Rhetoric and talk is cheap. Anyone with common sense knows you take anything Trump says with a grain of salt. You need to watch his actions. Give me actions he should have done.

We are declining now. NY and NJ have been for over a month.

I asked you what actions you would have done differently than the president as this was unfolding.

For sending the coronavirus into nursing homes? He screwed up as much if not more than anyone in this.

Yes, that was a mistake, but it falls into hindsight. I was commending his "take the high road" approach in his press briefings.

Regarding his mistake, not sure if you have been through eldercare before. Set aside Covid for a minute. The typical scenario with a medicare patient (i.e over 65) is that the hospital has to discharge as soon as possible. Medicare will not fund hospitals stays once certain medical criteria are met. They also have to ensure a safe discharge and that typically involves sending to to a rehab facility. Rehabs are lumped into the Nursing Home classification. They are often one and the same with both temporary rehab patients and long term permanent residents

There was no precedent to not follow this longstanding protocol. He had patients that Medicare said must be discharged and the only logical place to send them was the rehab facilities. Once they figured out what was going on, they overruled the policy.

Yes it was a mistake at first, but I think it is unfair to lay that on Cuomo.

I give DeBlasio a pass too. No one knew at the time

I think for the most part people government has been doing the best they can with what they know. They have all made mistakes. You and I would have likely made the same mistakes. To use this as an opportunity to take shots at the other political side is bad form.

I don't fault the initial stay at home and shut down but based on what we now know, I do think we should open the economy now in most but not all regions.

In PA, the dominos are falling as several counties have now opened in spite of Wolf's orders.

I agree Trump's rhetoric sucked but also agree that most of the federal actions were solid. You could argue the timing but I think he did many things that were correct.

The criticism of Trump has gone down partisan lines and so you can discount most of it. One wingnut labeled Trump's action as, "criminally negligent genocide". I know at least one on this board that will get his jollies "liking" that.

I also think we put too much emphasis on the White House and federal support.

Now is not the time to criticize people who did the best they could with an unprecedented situation.

I agree with almost all of that. I really didn't criticize Trump early on in the discussions about Covid. I even said any president would have had missteps with their response.

I do think Trump is unique in that he took the virus personally. He thought early on that if the number of cases goes up then he looks bad so he downplayed it like it was nothing. Also don't think any other president would be promoting armed protests against the stay at home orders. That in itself was batshit crazy.

People who die of Tuberculosis do not matter because it does not fit the current political spin.

Covid is the new bright shiny object that allows the left to exalt the leaders they like and vilify those they do not.

I'm all for understanding the virus, and the consequences of the stay at home order... but I just looked it that study projecting 1.6 million deaths in 5 years globally and it isn't a scientific study at all.

The scientific integrity of the study was not the point albeit I agree that every wack job and his uncle has a study.

Okay, now it's clear you're just a troll. I'm going to use the ignore feature for the first time ever.

I'm not a troll. When I get of my house when this pandemic is over I will be in a hazmat suit for the first couple months. You have to take all precautions. Can never let your guard down in a time like this.

If we are talking about our response to a global pandemic and if someone is saying that our response is going to cause another 1.5 million deaths due to something else, then we should understand that data and see if there steps we can make to mitigate that risk. That said, looking at their estimate, they are basically making a guess with no support on how they are coming up with their estimate.

Something like this is entirely unprecedented, and there will be negative consequences in our efforts to stop the spread of the virus .I'm all in favor of understanding what those consequences are and will praise / criticize leadership accordingly.

I will not touch a beach this summer. Very bad decision if you decide to go to the beach. The virus is going to spread like wild fire on beaches this summer. And everybody on here is going to see how right I am.

At last- pretty much debunked that this virus will die in the summer heat. The virus is thriving in tropical islands and Arizona is reporting new cases there everyday. Its been triple digits in Arizona recently.

Well I won’t be going to the beach this summer because the restrooms are closed, the restaurants are closed and I can get a suntan in my backyard next to the pool. I will however be playing an insane amount of golf unless you tell me that the virus mutates in sand traps.

Bathrooms closed? As far as I know Belmar and surrounding towns will have public bathrooms open at the beaches this summer

No where outdoors will be safe this summer. People can simply walk by each other and the virus can spread. Hoping I can get out of my house by the end of the year. I doubt it though. I will continue to have all groceries delivered to my home until the end of the year and shelter in place. I can't wait for the day I can go outside again.

Lmao this is hilarious. The sad thing is there are actually people who believe this.

Were you always like this but on a smaller scale ? I am genuinely interested in how you have become like this because I have a family member who is like this but at least will go for walks and leave the house. He has always been a little neuronic with things but this has put him pretty much on edge.

No I was never like this. But if people actually read about this virus and actually see the damage you can do to innocent lives is crazy. I have decided to fully shelter in place and not leave my house because I would have in on my mind my entire life if I walked around asymptomatic and infected people at high risk. This is happening right now and possibly someone on this board right now can be a walking asymptomatic. I am staying home to beat this thing.

I am staying home 24/7. People should believe this because its the truth. I mean if you want any proof feel free to contact me. I'm an open book.

Like I said a couple days ago I making all of my daily trades from home and video messaging my clients. I have a gym in my basement that I use everyday. I think I am living a good life during this pandemic. One thing I just refuse to do is go outside. Very very danger Andrew you put you and your loved ones at risk.

You have a home gym in basement , sound like you work in finance, do you not have a back yard you can enjoy? The chance of spreading the virus outside is almost zero.

Let's just all agree that bubble boy will be staying home and the rest of us will be going outside.

It's is choice and I don't see us changing his mind anytime soon nor should we feel that we have to.

So let's get back to our usual arguing. Lol

Very not true. The virus can vtravel outdoors through air particles. I have researched this a lot and its very scary people think since we are over the curve we can slowly go back to normal. The worst is yet to come unfortunately.

Bubble boy? I'm actually rational. Anytime you go out side you have the risk of being infected or be a walking asymptomatic that can be infecting other people. I wouldn't want that on my conscious!

Only thing I will say is you guys can joke about this now. Sad because this is a national health emergency. I tried to warn you guys what the next couple years will look like but it looks like no one wants to listen. Totally fine.
