For sending the coronavirus into nursing homes? He screwed up as much if not more than anyone in this.
Yes, that was a mistake, but it falls into hindsight. I was commending his "take the high road" approach in his press briefings.
Regarding his mistake, not sure if you have been through eldercare before. Set aside Covid for a minute. The typical scenario with a medicare patient (i.e over 65) is that the hospital has to discharge as soon as possible. Medicare will not fund hospitals stays once certain medical criteria are met. They also have to ensure a safe discharge and that typically involves sending to to a rehab facility. Rehabs are lumped into the Nursing Home classification. They are often one and the same with both temporary rehab patients and long term permanent residents
There was no precedent to not follow this longstanding protocol. He had patients that Medicare said must be discharged and the only logical place to send them was the rehab facilities. Once they figured out what was going on, they overruled the policy.
Yes it was a mistake at first, but I think it is unfair to lay that on Cuomo.
I give DeBlasio a pass too. No one knew at the time
I think for the most part people government has been doing the best they can with what they know. They have all made mistakes. You and I would have likely made the same mistakes. To use this as an opportunity to take shots at the other political side is bad form.
I don't fault the initial stay at home and shut down but based on what we now know, I do think we should open the economy now in most but not all regions.
In PA, the dominos are falling as several counties have now opened in spite of Wolf's orders.
