Moderna vaccine induced antibodies in all trial participants: paper

People also wore masks in 1918. Was everything then permanent as well?

How do you compare 1918 and 2020? Its a totally different time. The government is flexing their power on authority and people aren't even realizing it. This mask mandate will still be enforced way after COVID. I am obviously for masks now. But not looking forward to wearing them after a pandemic.

You may be right. The crazy thing is, this virus is child's play compared to Spanish Flu.

Masks don't protect you. The stated purpose is to protect others around you. Why should someone who doesn't have the virus wear a mask? They aren't expelling anything harmful.

Because they might have it and not know it.
That is why this virus spread so rapidly.

The government is telling you where you have to wear masks. The government is telling you where you can/can't go to eat. The government is telling you how many can people can meet for gatherings. And you think that's going to change when this is all over? Not a chance. And its crazy people don't see that.

Yup, massive power grab. This will be used as precedent for something else in the future. Americans have rolled over and surrendered their rights to big government in stunning fashion.

Blah. I said why should someone who doesn't have it wear a mask?

What you said was:

Yet people who don't have the virus are being forced to wear masks. Doesn't make sense.

And I am saying it is because people don't know if they have the virus or not.

I don't think I have the virus. I was last tested about 4 weeks ago. I still wore a mask everywhere I went without any complaint since I was tested. For the time being, and to err on the side of caution, we wear a mask in case we have been infected but don't know that we have been.

How does it feel to be a sheep? Can't say I've ever wanted to find out, but here we are.

lol. Gonna go with insults now because I care about those around me?

I just think this is all absolutely ridiculous. The media and politicians have brainwashed people like you into what you're doing.

But go ahead and keep going and getting the test so Phil Murphy can pump his testing numbers up.

japan is full on mask wearing and were business as usual the entire time. no shut down. do people in the US want their freedom back, or do they want to resist masks

Freedom should never have been taken away. That will be what the history books show 50 years from now. We didn't think it could happen in America, yet it did. Frightening.

americas reaction was no different than 90% of the other countries.

regardless we are at the point where wearing masks gains freedom

You're anti-testing? And you think I am brainwashed?
We currently only really have two tools to help fight this (other than physical distance)

#1. Testing. Expand testing to identify cases earlier so people are walking around infected and spreading to others.

#2. Masks. Masks have been proven to be effective in helping reduce the spread.

In all seriousness, why do you think I am brainwashed into believing that masks work (which is supported by science), but you are not brainwashed in believing the government is out to get us all by making us wear masks?

You've been brainwashed (and many others, sadly) to think this is a national crisis. All it is is a new flu-like illness that is spreading for the first time. This isn't the plague.

Hundreds of thousands of people will die form this virus. Yes. I think wearing a mask is worth being a part of the effort to keep that as low as possible.

It's not the flu. It's not SARS, it's not MERS. Those were new as well were not nearly as contagious. That is why we need to treat this differently.

We have two tools to fight it and you are against them both.

t, given the situation that we face because of China's recklessness. This is a war, the politicians say. Well, wars have casualties. I would say something under 100,000 would be acceptable. We will come in well under that according to most models. 100,000 is 0.03% of the US population.

At this point, I couldn't care less. Politicians and people with agendas have taken total control of the situation.

Now they're worried about 25 year olds getting the sniffles.

Yeah, I guess this is when a little bit of empathy might be a good thing to have.

Sniffles? People are not going to the hospital for sniffles.

And how can you compare 2020 with 5 or 10 or 15 years from now? You are talking about everything in sheer absolutes, yet in reality, anything looking forward is pure speculation. To borrow your words, 5 or 10 or whatever years from now will be a “totally different time.”

I have a friend in the federal government and been reading interesting things. That's the only other info I'll give you. But trust me when I say masks will be in play for a very long time after COVID.

While this is not just be the ordinary flu, it is not the plague or 1918 Spanish flu either. Just like almost everything today, reality is more in the middle.

I am in favor of wearing masks for now, if it allows us to open up society and the economy, and also helps slow the curve. But if numbers are good, things need to open, cannot keep things closed up.

There have been other pandemics over the years, and we have never shutdown the country, and while numbers were lower the population numbers were also lower.

1957 Pandemic killed 116,000 in US/over 1.1 million worldwide

1968 Pandemic killed 100,000 in US/1 million worldwide

2009 Pandemic killed 13,000 in US / 500K worldwide

Thank you bringing common sense to the discussion. One note, Hong Kong flu was 1968. You have the dates mixed up but your numbers are right.

I agree. As we take steps to prevent large scale community spread where out hospital systems get overwhelmed, we should be opening up. As we test more, we are also able to identify cases earlier so it is less and less likely you will be close to someone who is sick.

I think what is happening down south right now though is a direct result of opening up without restrictions.

There have been other pandemics over the years, and we have never shutdown the country, and while numbers were lower the population numbers were also lower.

To be clear though, this is the worst pandemic the US has seen in 100 years.
The only reason why the number of deaths is only 145,000 is because we took the steps we did to stop it. If we didn't shut down, I don't see how NY and NJ hospitals would not have been entirely overwhelmed.

In my opinion, the steps should have been:
Shut down to stop the spread, and reopen with certain restrictions and then remove those restrictions as the data supports doing so.

In NJ for example, I think everything should be open other than large crowded indoor spaces.

As President Trump stated today, the pandemic will get worse before it gets better. We are in for a brutal fall/winter. NJ will close again in September.

Don't bother man. Dude's either a pretty good troll account (the story about the mayor honoring him for sitting in his house made me legit lol I must say), or a nutcase. Posts some variation of the same few sentences over & over & over & over & over every day. Should def. be banned for that repetitive silliness, nevermind the tinfoil hat crap...ie, "post something new or move on", ya know? But clearly anything goes here nowadays so it is what it is.

@Bobbie Solo I will consider taking your advice. But I will not let someone like you call me a nutcase. I am doing what I think is best for my family especially with a family member that has a very serious health condition. Totally uncalled for calling me a nutcase. Staying home is the best option I can do to save lives. And I was awarded by my town already for this action.

I also want to note to you that I was trying to warn this board early about this pandemic and how mask wearing will change how live forever. But people on this board were telling me that the virus was a "political hoax" and I was a "moron".

Well, technically, it is a SARS-type virus (SARS-Cov-2). And unless we can get the testing back sooner than is currently available, on a large scale, testing is not nearly as effective a tool as it could be.

Two nutcases fighting it out for superiority.
We will not be wearing masks "for the rest of our lives."
Can I have a link, please, to the award you won from your town? You said there was an interview and everything. Surely that's online somewhere.

Hi @donnie_baseball. I refuse to post the link for a poster who name calls me. You can Google it.

And what support do you have that the government will end the mask requirement after the Coronavirus? The government is controlling what we do and this will stop after the Coronavirus ends? Wishful thinking!

Agree. The tools we currently have available are not perfect, but they are all we have. We have made progress though. My last test was for a pre-op clearance and results were available in 1 day.

I'm just not on board with downplaying what this is. We have not seen this kind of pandemic in 100 years. If this virus happened in the 1960's, the results would have been catastrophic. We have come quite a long way in the last 60 years. Our diagnosis, detection, treatments etc are so much more advanced than they were 60 years ago.

Saying we didn't shut down for a virus 60 years ago that killed 100k people is a bit disingenuous. Those were also influenza outbreaks which we had a better understanding of and were able to adapt fairly quickly.

Good points Merge. I believe many in the medical community (Drs, nurses, researchers, first responders) should be lauded for their extraordinary efforts in the last six months. They have really stepped up and it can't be overstated how much they have done and have risked their health and sometimes lives in the process too.

I tried to Google it, couldn't find anything under Darwin Awards. The mask requirement is unenforceable, and therefore to suggest that we will be forced to wear them, even in the midst of the pandemic, is asinine. The government is relying on good faith. I walk around outside without a mask all the time, can I be arrested? Can I be arrested for not wearing one in a store? I think I can be asked to leave, but I don't know, I haven't tried it.

In NJ you are going against an executive order by not adhering to mask policy indoors, the store can ask you to leave and if you dont comply the cops will come because ultimately it will become an escalated situation

Yes you can. There is an executive order issued in NJ for mask wearing indoors. This executive order will not just disappear after the pandemic is over. Are you not aware of the NJ executive order?

Also- You would not be able to find the article about me winning the award by searching "Darwin Awards"
