Potential Sha Replacements

Adding to this: Sha also deserves a longer leash than usual in this situation. The reason being that he is the only coach who could potentially stay at SHU for the duration of his career. Anyone else SHU could hire would only view the job as a stepping stone for something bigger and would bail after the first good season.

Sha has been bad this season, real bad. His moneyball approach to the roster failed and this team has not made any identifiable progress as a whole throughout the season. He deserves plenty of criticism but it would be foolish to replace him before his contract is up.
Agree with this as well.

He went through last year at 13-7 in the BE actively complaining about the bench and so forth too. Now look what he did. This has been so bad this year all around that there are now legitimate questions about the willingness to adjust. We'll see shortly. Here's hoping for the best.

He cares, has a work ethic a school like The Hall needs, and is a prideful guy. BUT there need to be adjustments in basketball philosophy at this level, as well as opening the program up more so it can benefit from a media presence. He's trying to operate like it's St. Peter's.

OK, I’ll throw some suggestions out

Grant B and Donald Copeland, for obvious reasons. Let’s not forget Level Sanders, too.

Don’t think NBA coaches without college experience work well, but I’ll also toss out Mark Bryant and Adrian Griffin for sake of discussion.

Could go back to Iona pipeline with Tobin Anderson.

Jersey Guy Andy Toole has struggled since Robert Morris changed conferences but perhaps worth a look.
I see Toole is on Jerry’s podcast in honor of a Horizon League title—finally adjusted to moving up to tougher competition. Certainly worth a look now.

If replacing Sha takes place we can’t think narrowly and just come up with a list of candidates that have a connection to Seton Hall but think out side the box and have a true national search..

Pretty sure I’ve conducted more exhaustive search in this thread than our admin did before it handed job to Sha.
Sha was perhaps the easiest no brainer selection in college basketball that year. This board would have exploded if we went and hired a different coach when Willard left. Sha was a pretty hot commodity after his Elite 8 run.

You’re right. It would have. But after 3 years and no tournaments to show for it, the clock is ticking. This is why the “smart” people responsible for making decisions are supposed to look at all of their options. Not just the shiny new toy 15 miles away that shocked the nation with an epic run. Fans are emotional. The administration is supposed to remain neutral during the hiring process. A few people here pointed out that Sha had some glaring flaws at St. Peter’s. Those flaws are now major flaws amplified by playing with the big boys. Sha and everyone else above him has officially messed this up. Enough with his rah-rah quotes. Fix it or get out.

There were dissenting voices. The choice was an easy one. To suggest it wasn't an easy choice at the time off this season is classic emotional Fandom

Is every thread going to be a fire Sha thread? It’s so easy just to point a gun and fire away blindly.

How many times is it going to be said that this year was a disaster?!

I’m not saying to coddle Sha, but this season’s outcome was decided back in November. We all saw it.

But he’s not going anywhere so continuing to hem and haw on here about a new coach is not only a waste of time, it’s getting annoying to see the ignorance of some on here.

I’d swear these bunch of posters now want to actually argue with posters supporting Sha as if it’s a poster’s decision on the matter. 😂😂😂.

Sifting through threads to shout into the void about a national search at the time of hiring Sha.

As if they wouldn’t have hired him at that time. Too ridiculous on here.

He was the right choice at the time. No issue with that. The problem is, most are turning a blind eye to his obvious shortcomings as he's proving every day that he really isn't that good.

Reactions: Hall Is Life
I've said many times, I'm glad he is here. Initially thought the 200+ phone calls to TT's mother might be more of a factor.
If he is as fantastic a coach as many believe, he will have offers in the off-season. Big programs might think they can get him cheap(er),

My biggest misjudgment was thinking kids would rush to the Hall to play for him after the St. Peter's run and hype. I realize NIL was just rearing its ugly head, but I was nervous about all the dropped-pucks at Devils' games and first pitches at Citi Field or Yankee Stadium amid no major signings. This is when the "Trust in Sha" refrain began. In retrospect, there was no rush to play for Coach Holloway.

From your lips to God’s ears—we can only hope someone takes him off our hands.

Between his public treatment of players and development of a losing culture, not sure an increase in funds can even fix this problem. The only solution to this problem is Sha taking a long look in the mirror and choosing to adapt. If he’s not willing to do that, he won’t be here for long. Hopefully he actually learned something this year.

Preach! Only question is when does his magical Elite Eight run lose its steam with the media and they start to turn on him? Every time you turn a game on, they’re pumping this guy up. Eventually that narrative has to change, right?

Skinn is going to get a good job this offseason, assuming he wants one. He's done really well there.

So, barring something unforeseen it should be two more years. One somewhat successful year could add an additional year. I suspect this debate will continue, but one side will emerge as the victors.

He inherited a good situation. I personally think he needs one more year there before a high major takes a favor- but all of that will be wiped clean if he gets a spot in the dance

As I understand it, he has at least three years and $7.5 million left on his contract.

That probably means the starting price is his original deal of $15 million for six years. Plus whatever it costs Sha to buyout his deal here.

This isn't happening coming off what looks to be a 7-25 season. We have the second worst record among P5 teams. How would we react if we chased after a coach with a similar record.

But it isn’t right or wrong. If anyone is hoping he fails and is therefore deemed “right”, they don’t belong on this board.

What I wonder about is if Sha has players that are good and play the way he expects them to play, will he keep screaming at them? If he does then it’s something to be concerned about.

But I think these guys were a lot worse than he thought and he didn’t evaluate them well at all.

It’s just my gut, but I think half of the Sha yelling is at himself for the team he put together this year. Pure frustration.

And I think he knows most of these guys aren’t coming back, so there’s less care in behavior toward them.

I want to see him succeed and hopefully open up to fans. I feel he’s a good coach and a lifer. But he’s gotta get more mature and have more patience with his guys.

I hope it starts with a coaching staff shakeup that actually helps him get his team ready in the early season.

I remain of the impression that Sha thinks HE is the program. I do not go to the Games to watch Sha and his silly histrionics. He holds himself apart from the Team --His ?Coaches?-- the Fans. His excuses --which are becoming legendary - usually rely on how the Players are responsible --reminding everyone that he has not forgotten how to Coach.
He claims he has learned a lot of not only what to do but also what not to do. Well he is going to get another Year (at least) to establish what he may have learned which I hope involves his being a Part of of a Program which would include adjusting his need for the personal spot-light. We (I) have no choice nor is there anyone in the Athletic Department that can be responsible to determine /help him "learn".

Maybe they're right and you and others are wrong?

Of all people on here, you should know the college basketball media is a brotherhood that will go out of its way to defend and promote everyone already within the system. You will almost never hear a negative word about a coach. Can't take anything a college basketball media member or coach says seriously.

100% agree but it’s sad to see you and others give up so quickly on Sha. One year ago was a good season, NCAA snub be damned. Even with the bid stealers, Seton Hall still deserved to be in over a few others.

Now one horrific season and all is lost?

Of course we can’t have another season like this.

Snub be damned. We lost by 19 to a non tournament team on the biggest stage with everyone watching. Something like 7 15+ point losses. Good number of losses to bad teams and the conference wasn't exactly great. If we had a NET in the low 40s people would be pointing out how the numbers mattered. But our NET was in the high 50s or low 60s. That's not a tournament team.

I'll be the first to say Sha can coach, but he can't coach 5 guys from piratecrew to a good big east season. We would've have had 2 less big east wins with 5 guys from piratecrew and saved a lot of money. Time will tell if he can do it with the funds we have, but it's not just 1 horrific season, we are facing what we thought was an impossibility in March of 2022, 4 straight years of no tournament. You can call last year a good season, but regardless that's 1 good year in 3 and by all expectations a mountain to climb to get players for next season. I do like the improvement from Dual and Aligbe during the year. Hope we can afford to keep both, but if we can't that's part of today's world.

This is a yes and no...there is propoganda journalism and insiders but is also works anti to that as well with some that target certain programs or coaches

I gave up on Holloway early in year 2 during the disastrous non-conference performance. They did turn it around in conference play but, too little too late. You need to be prepared to go from the start.
