His popularity among republicans is essentially unchanged. This isn’t someNo, they don’t. My bet is neither Trump or DeSantis is the nominee.
Recent spike in popularity. He has had the same hold on the Party for 7 years.

This poll paints a far different picture: https://nypost.com/2023/02/24/ron-desantis-leads-gop-primary-beats-donald-trump-poll/
And if the nominee is Trump, you will vote for Trump in the general?I consider myself conservative and like a lot of Trump's policies but not his immature ways. If my choices are Trump or Desantis in the primary, my vote without hesitation is going to be Desantis.

I question that as well. That's why I think these polls don't matter yet. No one outside of Trump and Haley have announced and you are also dealing with name recognition. Also, how is the question asked in these polls. I haven't met one person who claimed to have voted for Trump (once or twice) that would vote for him again given some of the options that are out there for the nomination.I think there are a fair amount of people who agree with you, it's just kind of surprising how many people would still choose Trump at this point.

Wouldn't most people want to know who the other candidate is? I would hope most voters want to take a look at the 2 candidates and evaluate them based on their plans, where our country is at in Nov 2024, and where we are headed. Then again you have people who are never Trump as well as others who are never Biden. And if the nominee is Trump, you will vote for Trump in the general?
Hasn't Trump done enough to say no matter who is the other candidate is, you would vote for someone other than Trump. And thus this is what is wrong.Wouldn't most people want to know who the other candidate is? Trump winning the presidency is not good for America. I would put a Kamala or deBlasio presidency in the same category. So yes the other candidate matters.Hasn't Trump done enough to say no matter who is the other candidate is, you would vote for someone other than Trump. And thus this is what is wrong.
I've seen nothing from DeSantis that suggests that he will do any better against Trump than Jeb Bush or John Kasich did in 2016.By the time we get to the primaries it will not even be close. DeSantis will be way out in front.

This is more of a comment on DeSantis than it is about Trump or the political climate.Completely different playing field/political climate than 2016. Not even remotely comparable.
Trump is doing very well for someone dealing with "legal difficulties."24% undecided meaningless poll at his point particularly with Trump legal difficulties.
the fact that trump has legal difficulties and 41% would vote for him and 24% havent decided yet tells you alot. can you not see that?24% undecided meaningless poll at his point particularly with Trump legal difficulties.
Understand that view, but I think that’s taking certain of DeSantis actions to the extreme and assuming he’d act similarly as President, which is a much different landscape that governing a state. I’ve learned more about DeSantis the person and politician, and I take him over Trump or any other R nominee I’ve seen (and I won’t vote for Trump regardless). I don’t agree with everything, nor will I with any politician. On the big stuff, I like him more than anyone else who has emerged. And I’m not alone, because getting 60% in Florida, winning MIami-Dade, etc, tells me there are plenty of independents and Democrats who like him.Idk, not really a fan of using the state to attack companies and people for their own political gain, if that person has the presidential power to go on these social issue vendettas nationally, that would be terrifying for free speech bc of the fear of retaliation by federal gov. I’m a fan of smaller government and less gov interference, i think the opposite would happen with desantimonius were elected.
Let's check in and see how Ron DeSantis is doing against Trump and the rest of the field:
You (and others) have spent the majority of this thread saying Trump is done and it's only a matter of time before someone (e.g., DeSantis) overtakes him as the presumptive 2024 republican nominee for president. Well, who's it going to be, then? Because it sure doesn't look like it's going to be DeSantis, at this rate. You seem to care about this a lot. Voting for Don? LOL. Thanks for checking in with another meaningless poll.
The primary is next winter/spring. Other candidates will enter and rise/fall in support. These things ebb and flow.
Why are you obsessing about something that’s a year and a half away. We don’t even know who is running.
They become meaningful when the votes actually start, which is at least 10 months away.
Cool…just keep debating the importance with yourself then.Sure, and there is plenty of other meaningless conversation here as well that we all participate in. This is is just another one of those topics. Some people think polling is interesting. No one is forcing anyone here to discuss it if they don't.
We were discussing who the nominee would be at this point in 2011, 2015, and 2019. Why is this any different?
Trump coming in with polls around 40% just shows that there is a lot for anyone else to overcome. Not impossible, but will be very difficult.
It's Trump. There's no one else. Why are you obsessing about something that’s a year and a half away. We don’t even know who is running.
It's Trump. There's no one else.
+1-He’s just proving my point…..lolSo nobody else is going to run. Got it.
LOL!!!
You guys are right, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy totally shook the political landscape when they announced they're running for the nomination.
And if you think the likes of Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, Tim Scott, or Ron DeSantis are going to make waves when they inevitably announce, well, I just don't see it.
